Time to see who we can get rid off!

Jasbo you are very harsh, particularly on Rhyse Shaw. Before he can use his body effectively he has to get one, go into your photo album and have a look at yourself at 18 and then again at 22 and see if you can spot the difference. Give the boy time to grow. I do agree that McKee, Smith, Olarenshaw and Hawking were bad experiments. One positive did come from your letter though, you did get me to look for my password and write in for the second time. PS does anyone know how Danny Roach, Nick Stone and Dale Baynes have been going in the twos???
Broadie, please tell me you were only joking. Mal Michael as "trade bait"!!!
God help us.
Maybe we could trade off Buckley, Tarrant, and A.Rocca as well. We could do a deal with Carlton. They could give us Ang Christou in return for all four.
Forget all this trading crap.
What we need are skilled recruiters who can draft the RIGHT juniors in the first place. Instead of giving up high draft picks in return for other clubs' rejects.

NT Pie - Agree fully on no.3 GET SPIDER EVERITT!!!! my god it would be sooooo cool to have Spider down at Vic Park i would fully freak if he came to Collingwood and would be rapt not having to go watch Saints anymore. And on point no.8 that is heaps true too - we don't need to get rid of any more valuable players like Clinton that has got to be the biggest joke in history. Agreed on 2 and 7 too.
PieGirl#41 I agree that Baynesy, Raochy and Stoney have been doing a great job lately in the ressies but Damien Lyon is doing heaps better i reckon he has been up there with the best week in week out.

Alf (& those who who responded to "Mal as trade bait"):
You don't get quality trades unless you offer them. Mal has been great in flashes, and in the first 7 or so games was very good. Since returning from injury, however, he has done nothing at all. I feel that because he and Tarrant are such similar players that we almost never have both of them play well at the same time. They both need a lot of space to run around and create long leads into in order to be effective. However, they can't BOTH have the space.
My preference would be to keep Mal, but if there is an Everitt or Graham (not this year, I know) on the market we should jump at them. I just think he's the most expendable of the players that any other club would actually WANT to trade for.
I won't bother replying to the facetious nature of the other trades Alf scoffed up.

OK. So whatd'ya do when Tarrant's injured, like he is now? Suffer?
The trouble with trading is that we always get ripped off. The fact is, if a club is willing to get rid of a player there must be something wrong with him. (usually a chronic injury problem- e.g. Olarenshaw)
The way to go forward is to draft the RIGHT juniors. You never get anywhere recycling other clubs' rejects. If a player is any good, his club won't let him go. Simple.

Alf,
I reckon we have already got enough juniors. If we keep on getting rid of the older guys and replacing them with new young ones we will be stuck with an inexperienced young team that will forever be in the rebuilding stage and we will have no players with any finals experience to guide the youngsters. I agree that some past trades have been shit - Clinton King etc
but remember we did get a recycled player in O Bree and he has been an absolute star for the Pies this year!

I loved the way Mal "Trade Bait" Michael nearly won the game for us this week.
Spidergirl, I think it's time we cleared up this "rebuilding" myth. All football clubs, whether they're premiers, wooden spooners or anywhere in between, are ALWAYS in a rebuilding phase. They have to be. Otherwise they would soon grow old and tired and no good. EVERY club needs to recruit new players EVERY year.
You can either recruit promising juniors who may or may not turn out to be superstars, or you can recruit players that other clubs have decided they don't want. The high draft picks are your best chance to get the future superstars.
I get extremely shitty when our club does any deal that involves giving up a high draft pick for some reject from another club. It should never ever happen ... at all.
Now, as Broadie so correctly points out, you don't get quality trades unless you offer them. So, your only hope of picking up a half-way decent player from another club is to give up a proven League player. Someone like Williams, Mal Michael, Scott Burns.
I say bugger that. Keep the good players.
We've got a team of recruiters being paid a king's bloody ransom to suss out the best talent around. If they're doing their job they should be able to pick the megastars of the future. I believe they got it right with Josh Fraser. Why the FLICK did they give up the No.3 pick last year. What an absolute cock-up.
It's no good trying to get someone like Spider Everitt or Corey McKernan. Even if their clubs are prepared to let them go you'll need to trade half your team (the good half, I might add) to get them. Then you'll find out they've got a bad knee or something. The trick is to recruit these guys while they're still juniors ... i.e. BEFORE the other clubs have got them.
OK. I know this is easier said than done. But that's what these bozo's are being paid for, stuff them.
Alf's simple plan to build the premiership team of the future ...
1.Keep all your good players.
2.Use the draft to recruit the very best juniors you can find.
3.And remember that juniors don't remain juniors for long.
Too simple?

Very late with the topic, but well said Justin
Although like everybody else said you are far to hard on Shaw. He is 18 and probibly is only about 65 - 70 Kgs. Yes Brown had guts when he was young, but that what made him what he is. Players like Brown are as rare as hens teeth.
As for everybody else if I hear any more crap about Schuable i will go nuts. Yes he showed potetial but who didn't. Yes he had alot of pressure being DV Captian, but he was useless. Yes he is playing okay at Sydney (and good for him) but it doesn't take much to change a players career, such as a change of environment.
At the end of the year we blew our load when Schuable was gone. You cannot forget that.
Justin you were also could have been a bit nicer to Mckee. He is a pony and I gave him a huge wrap last year but he did show some form in the backline. (foget comments made about Schuable showing potential here).
