A group of us in our 20's tried to sneak past the social cub doorman the night prior to the 90 grand final, the doorman doing his job politely told us to leave as we were not social club members.

Al happended to walk past and asked what was going on, I told him we were hoping to have a drink at the social club bar thinking it may bring us some luck for the game the next day.

Al escorted us to the bar, the rest is history.

RIP Al

His book on his tenure as president is one of the best books on Collingwood I've read.

RIP

Vale Big Al indeed.

I think I have that book too; bemoans the club not securing Quinlan in 1978, the club squabbling of a couple of grand, and how that ultimately cost us premierships.
