Chemist Warehouse! That's a surprise and good to know. There must be far more of them near everyone than Bunnings. (She did get P2-rated ones, right?)think positive wrote:...

Looks like there's currently a heavy band from Bendigo to Castlemaine to Macedon and down to Melbourne.

I went for a walk at lunchtime in the CBD to buy smokes, yeah it was smokey but no big deal. Sit around a campfire for a few hours you'll get worse.
Funny thing is, the advice on wearing the breathing masks is that those dodgy face masks you see lots of Asians wearing in the CBD are not only useless at filtering out any pollutants, they actually just make it harder to breathe

I just found a double pack of P2 masks in the cupboard! I handed them to my dripping wet daughter as she came in the door, not sure it was appreciated!

Geez, it's surreal reading this thread. I hope you all get relief soon enough.
In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

Some are cloth, some are some designer stuff potentially more fashion statement than practical.Pies4shaw wrote:^ Stui, I think those are just "surgical" masks - they're intended to stop you contracting swine flu, not to stop smoke.
I don't know how it was in the CBD today but the breathing difficulties were hideous there, yesterday.
I've moved buildings from Elisabeth St near the markets where there was a lot more Asians in masks to up near Russel and Lonsdale.
Today was pretty much the same as yesterday. The building managers locked the front doors beside the revolving door and made all traffic use the revolving door in an attempt to keep the smoke out, which of course made for hilarious watching at all the distracted idiots who walk into the locked door because they didn't see or read the big sign right in front of their face
Despite being a smoker, I had no issues with breathing in the air, no different to normal and I can walk 3-4km without running out of breath normally. Actually, it might be further, I normally have to pull over with shin soreness before the breath gives out

Storm this arvo killed the smoke, we've had 18mm of rain since 5pm at my place, we've had double the amount of rain in the first 15 days of Jan that we had in all of jan 2018.pietillidie wrote:Geez, it's surreal reading this thread. I hope you all get relief soon enough.
With the climactic conditions that caused the drought finished (positive Indian Dipole and the negative phase of the southern annual mode) we're likely (hopefully) for some more rain and less drought.
Won't help the places burned in the Black Saturday fires 10 years ago, they're primed to burn again next month withe some typical February heat, so we aint finished yet.
Us city folk are fine, winging about a bit of smoke in the air isn't my deal, the fire fighters and people in the front line of the fires have had it far worse
