That is horseshit of the highest order, absolute, unmitigated, utter crap.

Australia does communicate what the rules are, it's not our responsibility to grab each person by the throat at the foreign airport where they're intending to fly here, shake them vigorously, and tell them in 427 different languages that if they lie on their customs declaration they'll be shipped to Antarctica wearing a swimsuit with the only luggage a pocket knife, cigarette lighter and a candle.

^Lol, someone translated a brochure!

How many intercultural comms specialists did that take? And you conveniently skipped the bit about being responsible for carrying out enforcement. No matter what the penalty, someone actually has to pay someone to enforce it.

Sorry, it's laughable. Our culture is slipping into pathetic farce.

Deport these idiots or have them locked up for being too stupid to be allowed out. What kind of imbecile thinks it would be OK to try to bring raw pork and eggs through customs in a suitcase?

HEY, PHUKTARD, You can buy pork and eggs in the supermarkets here.
It's been happening for the decades I've been flying. There has been zero improvement in cross-cultural awareness programs because to do so means someone in Australia would have to take responsibility for something, and give a toss, without making a quick buck off it.

To quote Obi-Wan Kenobi: "Who's the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?"

Is there anyone remaining in our entire culture willing to take responsibility for anything?
Explain to me why anyone in Australia is responsible for some farquit trying to smuggle in food they can legally buy here?
Well it’s simple really you can’t expect travellers to be responsible for knowing simple things like visa requirements and the custom restrictions of the country they are visiting surely?

And really custom and boarding cards in languages other than English like in the traveller’s language should be handed out prior to landing - you know those ones that ask “do you have meat, animal products or plants“ etc ...... oh wait they are

And obviously you can’t expect people from other cultures to take any responsibility for not complying or outright lying on their declaration cards - that must be our fault surely.

^Basic world fact: you're responsible for your laws; their communication and their enforcement. There's no way out, round or through it.

Next, you'll be blaming koalas for not having legs like kangaroos rather than investigating who failed to carry out proper forestry management during a drought.

The chickens are coming home to roost for decades of self-entitlement while the rest of the world works and studies hard to improve its lot. Is there any danger - any at all - people might start taking responsibility for the things within their control, rather than reflexively blaming others like Facebook imbeciles?

Perhaps people could elect another incompetent, clueless, fist-waving idiot who can help them double-down on repeating the same mistake, wasting more time rather than actually taking useful action :?:

Basic world fact, a country has it's own laws and communicates those, people who want to travel to said country are responsible for understanding what laws they may face.

Females wanting to walk the streets in Saudi Arabia in a bikini probably should do some reading first, packing your boogie bag full of dope before flying to Bali probably isn't smart, etc.

Ignorance of the law is not and never has been an excuse.

Maybe they are just trying to get away with it like ant other criminal

Unfortunately, I said communicate and enforce. You've missed the enforcement bit. Even if you think communication doesn't matter, you're still responsible for enforcement. Nice try.

Yeah nah when we go overseas we are responsible for making ourselves aware of the requirements, restrictions, laws, cultural norms and acceptable behaviour etc of the country we are visiting - as are ALL travellers end of!

But cool story champ - jog on

Sorry, you're only responsible if you don't want to fall foul of the law. In other words, enforcement has the last say. The buck still stops with enforcement - in this case decades of pathetic lack of communication and enforcement. Nice try.

Let's get all offended because someone challenged our self-entitledness and vote for some clueless fist-waving halfwit to facilitate our decline due to an imbecilic refusal to take responsibility for anything, even enforcing our own laws

Did you trip over and hit your head? We do enforce stuff. The link that started this little convo had a Vietnamese woman being deported. We take customs breaches seriously. Is your prostate blocking your vision?
