Pre-Match. Pies v. Swans.
Moderator: bbmods
Out: Kreuger, Kelly
In: Pendles, Ruscoe (sub)
That leaves us almost totally reliant on Frampton in the ruck, which is not ideal, but unfortunately we don't really have any other options, given that Steene is not ready for senior footy. Kelly might keep his spot, but I actually prefer Ruscoe, who is physically stronger and seems calmer under pressure.
I'll be happy with a 1 point win, but expect we'll win by 17 points.

certainly when elliot, Hill and Ginnavan do not kick a goal between them, it might look like we have too many smalls for not much return.joemamone@gmail.com wrote:I am not sold on Hill - I would like to see Murley debut or McInnes in.
I think Hill is safe, for what he can potentially do. Elliot or Ginnavan perhaps make way for Carmichael. It's great that we are on top, and keep winning and all, but this forward line needs improvement to go all the way.
Our smalls will come to the fore, when we have a genuine big KPF to bring the ball to ground.gurugeoff wrote:certainly when elliot, Hill and Ginnavan do not kick a goal between them, it might look like we have too many smalls for not much return.joemamone@gmail.com wrote:I am not sold on Hill - I would like to see Murley debut or McInnes in.

While I'm very happy we finally get the chance to play the Swans in Melbourne and at the G people would be foolish to underestimate them on the back of a patch of poor form while dealing with injuries.
Longmire is one of the best in the business, he's missed finals only twice since 2011 and outside those seasons the Swans he leads rarely put in non competitive displays of football like we witnessed against Geelong this year.
Another week, another tough challenge for our own injury hit side.

He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD!

I would have thought if Cox is available, then he comes straight into the seniors. We’re that bereft of talls, surely an underdone Cox is still better than Krueger who hadn’t played for a season and Kelly who had very little impact on the weekend. Any time Cox spends on the ball, would automatically release Frampton to full back. Conversely, even if Cox parks himself in the goal square all day, at least Checkers has some support down there.
Gary Player “ the harder I practice, the luckier I get “
Reckon that Cox's severe injury means a game in the Reserves maybe a wise choice. Not wanting to be arrogant but managing Steele, Jamie, Mitchell, Mihocek, Adams etc... isn't a bad thing over the next month.

I love the Pies, hate Carlscum
Absolutely it’s the wise choice but I just sense desperation at the selection table whenever the spine and ruck comes into the conversation. Having said that, I’ve just gone back and seen that he hasn’t played since Port, so that’s five weeks of inactivity and really not worth the possible risk that comes with losing him again. Weather looks like rubbish on Sunday too, so maybe if ever we can get away with an undersized team, it’s this weekend. I’ve changed my mind, hold him back until the Giants the following week.inxs88 wrote:Reckon that Cox's severe injury means a game in the Reserves maybe a wise choice. I didn't think Will Kelly was as ineffective as others thought, and i saw a few promising signs.Maybe he needs a more strictly defined role. I would play him again. He can't improve if we don't play him, and I thought i saw ability there. I wouldn't be throwing Cox in straight away.
We also need to consider who the Swans have available. Just checking their website, it looks like Hickey will be ready to play, who is superior to Ladhams. So we will need another tall to stabilise our structure.
My conclusion:
Pendles comes in (Kreuger out)
Sub: Kelly
If Murph is unable to play due to the head high knock he got from Fogarty, then Kelly plays in the 22.

I’m nervous about our next 2 weeks.
Swans have won the last 3 against the Pies (our last win was at the Gabba in 2020).
GWS. We won last time but previous to that GWS had won the previous 4 times.
We should win both. We are an improved team on last year and both games at the MCG. Fly to get his first win against the Swans
