For that era a big man running that far was totally NOT happening but the big bloke did it.RudeBoy wrote:What about Gabbo's great run, bouncing (fumbling) and goal?

Brilliant post LH!
I'm with you here, especially on breaking lines, opening up the forward half and confusing opposition.
The first game I saw live at the MCG was the day, Easter Monday, when Micky did that run. You know, 30 years later when I tell youngsters about that day and fumble thru u tube looking for the replay, the hairs on my neck start to stand up. The crowd noise was something I'll never forget.
I don't know if you can find it, but Nathan Buckley's goal.that led to that centre bounce was also a great running goal. Bucks won a contested ball on the HB flank, hand passed over the top, ran hard to recieve it back, had one or two bounces and drilled it from outside 50... it was just his 4th or 5th game in the Black & White.
It was also the day that Peter Daicos was paid tribute to with a lap at half time. Josh in his arms, who was crying coz he was scared of the mascot when Peter was interviewed.
Can anyone find and post links to those 2 bits??.
The Pies v Blues reserves game was a cracker as well, finished in a draw. Getting there early, we were lucky enough to watch that game too.

5 running bounces taken in the GF.
Two in the 2nd quarter, one to Markov and one to Sidey.
Then one each to Sidey then McCreery in the third.
One to McCreery in the fourth.
I also recall someone saying it's the 1st game we've won this year with Naicos not taking a running bounce. Is this correct?

I've also updated Bobby Hill's montage in the OP. Has there been a better exponent of the running bounce in our colours. Bloke is simply electric when he gets his wheels going.

Re: Long live the running bounce of the ball
I reckon #45 Wil Parker is going to be a beaut. That's some real poise and composure to back your skillset, take a couple of bounces and kick truly.
Attach him to Sidey in the pre-season.

Re: Long live the running bounce of the ball
I yelled at TV for him to keep running for another 10 metres or so; nobody was near him, or really, interested in attempting to chase him down.LaurieHolden wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 7:17 am I reckon #45 Wil Parker is going to be a beaut. Still a great goal, but would have loved a few more metres just for the theatre of it.
