How good was the pole vault world record breaker?!
Over 6.2m high, that's insane.

The Fox sisters, the swimmers, the kayakers... all of them, just awesome efforts. Loving it, just wish I could stay awake longer!

Sitting 3rd on the gold medal tally for a country of our size is just ridiculous. !st and 2nd are the USA and China. Population size and budget wise we should not be close to being in the conversation. I've been watching bits and catching up next morning online. Some brilliant efforts.

The swimmers, the Fox sisters, that tiny little skateboarder girl who gets a pet duck as a reward for an Olympic Gold Medal at 14 years old (seriously WTF?) it's been unreal. Well done to all. Yeah we will likely drop down the table over the last few days but still an unreal effort from all involve4d.

Superb effort by the mighty Aussies to win the bronze in the womanโ€™s basketball. Fabulous game and they held strong against a very competent Belgium side. Well deserved win.
I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy โ€œUnceasing Wavesโ€ like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm โ˜”๏ธ

Hmmm... Dunno that any of the nations below us has a bigger Olympic budget... Wonder if we can find data on that.

^ Here's some data on Oz funding:

" Funding boosts

The Australian Sports Commission directly invested a record $398.3 million in high performance funding for Paris.

This money funded projects such as developing a replica Paris BMX Freestyle track and launching a new canoe slalom kayaking program.

This preparation helped contribute to Olympic success for Australia.

Direct athlete support

Since the Tokyo games, $47 million in direct athlete support grants have been awarded.

The AOC also invested in Indigenous Athletes Support Grants and financial incentives for medal winners.

Mining magnate Gina Rinehart also personally supported our swimming, rowing, volleyball and synchronised swimming teams.

This support allows athletes to train more and work less."

Yep, on Gina, I saw articles saying we need to find more Ginas...

^ And Canada:

" How well are athletes funded in Canada compared to other countries?

Compared to other countries that often dominate the medal table, Shoemaker said โ€œregrettablyโ€ Canada doesnโ€™t do well.

โ€œThe eye-watering budgets that the United States has for its athletes and its Olympic team are not a fair comparison,โ€ he said. โ€œBut Australia outspends us by two times, Great Britain by three times and thatโ€™s alarming.โ€

Roos said that while there are lots of different statistics available, itโ€™s evident that Canada is about 10 years behind other countries. David Larose, a spokesperson for Canadian Heritage said the government couldnโ€™t provide a comparison to funding in other countries as โ€œvarious countries allocate funding to athletes through a variety of different mechanisms.โ€

Another thing that stood out in the Paris Games was Covid. :(

Tokyo was supposed to be the Covid Games, but really it was Paris. Changed the course of Olympic history with at least two historic gold medals affected.
