Lazza, put things into perspective. We've paid nothing for him, and will pay little to him, as a delisted player. So even if he's just making up the numbers we have to have a certain number of players on our list. It's like Jordan Russell, fillled a need when players were unavailable and made up the numbers otherwise. For pick 76 or so.
It's what he weaves with picks 6 (a nice trade in itself from pick 11) & 10, the introduction of Adams & Grundy at 18 and the like that he is revered for.

SCHARENBERG.
Yep, that's the latest rumour going around. If Bontempelli goes at 4 to Dogs or even 3 to StK, then word is we'll take Scharenberg at 6. That's fine with me and it works out better for us as players like Aish or Freeman could be there at 10, perhaps even Billings. I'm still sticking with Lennon all the same.
1. Boyd
2. Kelly
3. Bontempelli
4. KK
5. Aish
6. Scharenberg
7. Billings
8. McDonald
9. Salem
10. Lennon/ Freeman/ Acres....
Wish we had another top 20 pick.
Cheers.

I fully support Armstrong's recruitment for the exact reasons you mentioned, but in another thread, a few others think it's definitely NOT a bit more of Hine magic but more to do with the colour of Armstrong's skin......

More talk in the Herald Sun that we're into this bloke, even a possibility to be taken at 6.AN_Inkling wrote: Dave mentioned Salem above, and going on his profile he sounds great (but don't they all?): excellent skills, good pace, tough and a strong tackler, very good overhead mark. Well done boys!
i thought brions were really into KK?Stinger wrote:I find it hard to see aish not going to the saints and scharenberg to the brions. Surely we'd take either of them if available?swoop42 wrote:With one of Aish or Scharenberg likely to slip to 6 it's not a fait accompli that Hine will take Bontempelli at 6.
It's going to be intriguing come draft day what Hine will do with our first pick, with it all depending on how highly he actually rates Bontempelli(assuming he's still there) compared to the names above or indeed someone else.

Every club is really into potential players.
It would not be a good look if the club said a player was a spud and then drafted him.
Since no-one knows exactly who another club will draft everyone talks up all the players "excited" "interested" "rate highly" are far better than "will only take if players we want are gone"

The great McCarthy
Picks 6 and 10. What a quandary. The draft might be "shallow" but the first 15 or so players are very good. Who to pick?
The big word is that we will draft Bontempelli if he's still there at 6, otherwise Scharenberg. That's fine. They're both tall "midfielders" who'll be hard to match up on.
What about pick 10? I like Lennon. He's a beautiful mark and kick. Then there's Freeman, who can run like the wind and has been compared with Patrick Dangerfield. Not bad. Of course, there's no way of knowing who'll still be around at pick 10.
If Cameron McCarthy is still around at 10 I think we should grab him. He's touted as being the second best power forward in the draft. Have a look at his highlights reel on the AFL site. Of course, anyone's highlights reel looks good but seeing McCarthy taking those brilliant pack marks makes me salivate. I hear that the 2014 draft is supposedly full of power forwards, and then there's Darcy Moore. We should ignore that.
McCarthy is available now and will probably still be there at pick 10. There'll no doubt be other great midfielders available at 10, but our midfield looks ok. I'm thinking of a forward line comprising Cloke at CHF, White playing the Leigh Brown role and McCarthy in the goal square.
Power forward don't grow and trees. We should nab him. And by the way, Carlton apparently is desperate to get him.

From the Twittersphere...
Callum Twomey @AFL_CalTwomey 15h
Not sold on talk of Cam McCarthy to the Lions at pick 7. Possibility, of course, but feel like it'd be a reach. Talls available in the 20s.
Matt Scharenberg maybe hardest to read. Being interviewed again by clubs this week and next. Wouldn't rule him out as a top-four pick.
Fair few clubs like Zak Jones. Should be a top-20 pick. Geelong, Fremantle, Richmond among those who could consider the tough half-back.
Ben Lennon probably fits into the pick 10-12 range (Coll, WC, Rich). Be a good fit at Tigers. Lewy Taylor could get a look at GWS' pick 14.

He does sound good and I'm sure players with elite foot skills and a burst of speed are high on Buckleys want list.
To pick him at 6 however which is earlier than most if not all would have had him going would mean either he's a Hine special like a Pendlebury or we're almost certain he wont be there at pick 10.
P.S-I heard yesterday on an AFL podcast that Scharenberg is friends with Grundy.
Apart from his talent that would be another good reason we'll go for him if he slips through to 6.
