I will admit... I have not watched the game...therefore, I will not comment on any of the judgements of players' performances. However, looking at this globally, consider this:
Last week: Brisbane lost by a point to last year's runners up...at the homeground of the runners up, which is probably a 3 or 4 goal advantage.
This week: They beat us by a point, minus the "big O". We were minus Billie.
They did not have an ideal preparation, but they are a quality outfit and they can deal with that. Due to last year's experience, most clubs would have the knowhow to deal with scenarios such as this anyway.
Clearly they were missing excellent players who can and will improve them.
We were missing "only" Billie, but still a very significant hit.
We dont have the same proven quality as Brisbane at hand to enter the ranks. We have youth to come in: Kelly, McCreery, Murphy, Bianco...etc, but not the likes of J Berry, Staynor, Rainer, Gardiner...
That is where we are at. We mostly all agreed that this year we did not have the list to challenge for the GF.
We will need to bring our young players in, with the scaffolding of experienced players around them, over the next few weeks. I think this game shows the scaffolding is there.
Next week against GWS, I look forward to seeing a young player being brought into the squad.
Free Julian Assange!!

Is Hodge likely to want a senior coaching appointment? Just asking, because I don't know. Clarkson might be beyond our reach, but Hodgey? Hmm. ..... interesting.

Yep, I would go for Hodgey in a heartbeat. Hated him when he was a Hawthorn champion...but hate can turn into love under different circumstances!!

I honestly can't see the club taking a 'punt' on an inexperienced coach, no matter what their name is.

Doesn't leave us with many realistic choices... the best of the 'lot' would have to be Lyon and Brad Scott. Either way I'm not worried, both have had a good rest and will relish both taking on such a huge club as ours and the new way games and tactics are developing. I honestly don't care as long as their the best available. The club needs a fresh start.

Yep, before that scaffold of experienced players get past their prime! I thought Sidey was disappointing tonight, but I guess he is allowed a poor game in 245 or whatever it is
If we allow too much time to pass before bringing in young, untried players, we will sink to absolute rock bottom, as the older ones are forced to give it away. Now is the time. Also, talented young players can bring so much excitement to a team and rejuvenate the more senior ones.

:D  So true. I've actually always admired him. Skill, g & d, with copious amounts of cheekiness and brashness. Could really motivate a team, I'd say, with a huge knowledge and understanding of the game.

As I've said my entire life - football sides need to be coached by a person that strikes fear into players'performance and loathes complacency and mediocrity.

You can't be buddies with your coach; it's the beginning of the end...

With Malthouse when we played crap he was trying new things and he blooded new talent. Buckley is... where do I start? NO IDEA. Can’t wait for the polished media performance saying f..k all. Isn’t he embarrassed to be coach for 10 years and not deliver? 2018 was the biggest arse since that Aussie bloke won the gold medal in the Winter Olympics.

Whoever makes these decisions??? Sadly, I am sure Bux has a major input into them.
