Sorry. You're right - when I click on the link I posted, I now get the log-in or join page. I wasn't logged in to Linked-In - I just googled, so I'm not sure why that happened. Anyway, you may be able to see it by googling as I did, if you're interested.eddiesmith wrote:Can't view it ....

NSW has a community case:
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-n ... infectious
NSW has very good QR code compliance so the spread should be adequately monitored & hopefully it won’t spread too far.
At this point in time as I understand it, it is not known how the community transmission occurred.
However, because of the good compliance with QR codes we know where this person has been: quite active and not a vegan I hear.
A lot of exposure sites, this is a current story and growing: The Northen beaches again....

Linkedin is strange like that, sometimes you can view them, sometimes you can't, seems very random.Pies4shaw wrote:Sorry. Very good QR code system, good compliance and top class contact tracing. The bloke was very good in checking in where he went so the contact tracers are all over it.watt price tully wrote:NSW has a community case:

What will be interesting is where the hell it came from. They'll have to wait for the genomic sequencing, but there's no apparent link to anywhere he could have caught this.

I meant that the people in Australia generally don't care, not those that are stuck in India.
I looked at that article and stopped reading it after the first example, which was a couple of people complaining that during the pandemic they were not allowed to bring his mother, who has no association with Australia, from India to live in Australia. Whingers. They made a stupid decision and will live with the consequences.

You are right, they may draw that impression but my view is that it has to be viewed in the light of the pandemic. In circumstances where there are Australians citizens that have been attempting to get home for a long time, not many are going to be concerned about selfish Australian citizens that chose to leave last December, or a non Australian citizen, not being able to come to Australia. There have been Australian Indians interviewed in the media that agree with our policy.
All of this is a sideshow to the main question though, which is why we do not have a proper quarantine facility yet. If we did, these issues could be overcome. We don't need to spend billions - even caravans in a large paddock would do, although there's even a long wait for one of them at the moment.

my hubby went to the dentist last night, the dentist told him about her mum who lives in a block of flats with a couple of hundred people in it, 70% are infected. they managed to get her out of the city and a 2 day drive into the countryside somewhere (ive never been to India, or watched a show about it aside from the quick 2 day visits on the amazing race, so i have no idea of the geography) it must be terrifying. I feel for the aussies stuck there, but why did they wait til now? people wanting to bring family members who are not aussies, no, they still have to follow the regular protocols, we just cant do it. as for the cricketers, ****!
You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!

The whole white / non-white thing is bullshit to me.
the virus is going off tap in a way not seen anywhere before. You bring in a plane from there at the moment, by the time it lands it's likely that everyone on board will be infected, including the crew.
And it's not just Indians who're banned, it's anyone who's been in India in the past 14 days.
I have some sympathy for the people over there who want to come back, I have more for the locals who have no choice. This is a temporary pause on incoming flights, to be reviewed in 9 more days. It's likely that they'll be able to start coming back in after that, meanwhile the locals can look forward to choking to death in the street and a bonfire in a car park.
The person sooking about not being able to bring an elderly parent into Australia from anopther country during a pandemic needs to stop being such an entitled twat.
As far as quarantine facilities, it's amazing what you can find on real news sites.

From my 5 days in Sydney just about everyone was using it there.
Come to Melbourne then variable compliance to using it, go on a train to the footy and about 25% compliance with face masks (at a guess) and I’ve gone to every melb based match the pies have used.

NSW had their state QR code system up and running while Victoria was still in lockdown.
Once Victoria re-opened there was a melange of check in methods, from manual paper based to larger chain stores personal QR codes til finally the Vic Government got something similar to the NSW one. Now they're struggling to get people to use it.
NSW people retained their freedom while Victoria was locked down, the price of that was to use the QR system so they've generally been conditioned to using it. They can see how quickly the NSW Government have been able to jump on outbreaks and contact trace without locking down so they have incentive to use it.
With the trains, my observations are that trains are no where near being back to where they were. Some mornings I walk along the train line, Hurstbridge line. The 7:15 from Watsonia would be nearly standing room only in the past, now it looks like there's 1 person per group of 4-6 seats. The traffic on Greensborough road at the same time however is horrendous.
People are choosing to drive, not use trains.
