I hope Robbo is doing us a favour. JDG can be the most influential Pie since Daicos, but is only comparable to Carman at this stage. He's a what could be, rather than a what is.

JDG has about 5% of Carman’s talent.

Yes, I was probably understating the gap between them a few fold.

I'm assured by an insider that I trust that Slobbo's story is 90% click-bait.

Guess it depends on what you mean by compare.

I read Cam's post as suggesting that Jordy has the ability to influence the game much like Carman did but that he might go off the rails a little and doesn't have the consistency.

I think it's generally accepted that Phil may not have got the best out of himself and let's hope that JDG realises that he could be anything if he puts his mind to it.

"Mark Robinson turned up for pre-season in the same state he was the year before.

Overweight and half-sloshed.

The editors weren’t happy and neither was Robinson’s Personal Assistant, who complained about the smell.

Eddie McGuire delivered some tough love to Robinson over his bullshit muck-raking gutter journalism, and robust words were exchanged. From there the relationship soured.

Meetings were postponed by Robinson, telephone calls weren’t immediately returned and it eventually culminated with an email by Eddie to Rupert Murdoch about three weeks ago. However, Robinson was given more freedom to make shit up.

"Jordan De Goey turned up for pre-season in the same state he was the year before.

Overweight and unfit.

Collingwood weren’t happy and neither was De Goey’s manager, Ben Niall.

Niall delivered some tough love to De Goey, and robust words were exchanged. From there the relationship soured.

Carman came to Collingwood as a 24 and a half yr old.

Played 66 games, averaged 10.7 kicks, 5.5 handballs, 5.8 marks, 2.2 goals, 1.7 frees for and 3.6 frees against. His top 11 frees against games included a PB of 11!, 9, 3x 8, 2x 7 and 4x 6. He was an absolute #$#head, albeit talented. I played under him once in the Bendigo League.

De Goey is currently 23 yrs old.

His last two years as a 22 and 23 year old he has averaged:
11.5 kicks, 4.9 handballs, 4.6 marks, 2.2 goals, 0.8 frees for and 0.9 frees against. Unfortunately, whilst Carman prepared like an animal off-field and played like a talented anarchist onfield, De Goey has this around the other way. He has to realise he cannot be Swanny until he has Swanny's consistency and sustained years of performance and excellence under his belt. Something that Carman never had either.

No one will ever beat my Grandma's scones for taste. I last sampled them in about 1998. She used buttermilk I believe. I've had plenty since, but they just don't taste as good as history.

The stuff supporters say about JdG is unbelievable. Better than Gary Ablett Sr! etc.

Jay Clark says JdG "tweaked his back at training last month".

(C4e's post: https://magpies.net/nick/bb/viewtopic.p ... 94#1951294 )

Jay does not say whether he thinks that's the result of being unfit and overweight. :|
