I've not seen too many mentions of him but Greenwood was good again last night. He was our best contested ball winner (12) and clearance winner (7). With some others not at there best in this area he has been invaluable the last two weeks. I'd questioned whether he'd really have a spot but he's delivering for us at the moment, just fit him into my votes this week.
Well done boys!

Where are all the Ramsay haters now? Great effort young fella and will keep improving. Some points of note. Gault is either not ready or not up to it. Caff is way off the pace, Williams should not be our designated kick in from full back and we cannot play Frost and Brown together when Reid is there, Too the haters and disbelievers, never lose faith. Its just a game. I never pick against the Pies regardless of who we play, never and until Pendlebury stuffed up and gifted a goal and then Williams did the same thing, we were on top ready to run away with it. Keep improving Pies.

Rapt with the win - albeit ugly and only being Richmond (who IMHO) are not a good side.
Obviously Hardwick in his 3rd Q address told his players to just treat this game like a final.
I thought a turning point in the game came in the 3rd Q when Brown chipped to Adams on the defensive wing who played on STRAIGHT away and kicked to Cloke who took a contested mark and played on STRAIGHT away which resulted in Grundy waltzing in for an easy goal. Why the hell don't we do this more often.
After his 3Q stuff ups, why was Marley kicking out again in the 4th Q ?
Can someone explain to me the logic of our defenders guarding the zone and not picking up players. How Richmond were able to just chip the ball to the top of the goalsquare and allow Jack R to take an uncontested mark is beyond belief. This structure just has to change.

ONLY a glass half empty moron could not love that win, sure our skills were down at times, and its not the way we really want to play, as Bucks said post game, but bloody hell, we never gave up, we hung in, we guts it out. a truly wonderful win. One for the ages, for sure, no wonder i have loved this club for so many years, last nights wn says it all. !

Ramsey was killing them last year until he got injured.I really want to see him get back to that level and the way he played last night,it won't be long.Mr Burns 17 wrote:Where are all the Ramsay haters now? I actually noted that Grundy was clearly smashed in the hitouts. However, I thought that he provided a physical contest all around the ground, and was a contributor with kicks, handballs, smothers and tackles. He had 18 disposals to Hampson's 13. He is a competitive beast and needs to play every week. However, given that Gault has been so disappointing....again....it may be that Witts will return to take his spot. As someone else noted, if only we could combine the assets of Witts and Grundy into one player, our ruck problems would be all solved.mudlark wrote:Sorry Rudey.I thought Grundy was terrible.Wits is a far more accomplished ruckman, but I would like them BOTH in the team.I think it works. Gault should not be allowed to take the senior field again until he learns to stop looking into the head lights. He was terrible last night and blew at least 2 lay down mizaire goals as well as just not competing. Our kicking has me totally bamboozled.I just cannot understand how we can be so consistently bad at it.We must have turned the ball over 25 times last night. But a win.I'm happy and I backed them .RudeBoy wrote:Incredible win and one which should give the team some self belief.
We still had too many passengers. Gault, MaCaffer and Aish gave us very little. I'm prepared to cut Aish some slack as he should improve, but Gault is not up to AFL standard and MaCaffer is just way too slow.
Before the game I was criticised for saying that Fasolo could become our Stringer type full forward. He is such a natural forward, who plays on instinct and demands the ball. And he's an accurate goal kicker.
Despite getting smashed in the hitouts as usual, Grundy showed tonight why he is needed in our team. He is a footballer.
Hopefully, we can begin to improve and gather some momentum. Go Pies!

Grundy was poor last night but hopefully better for the run.
I wanted to punch Bucks when I saw Williams taking the kick-outs: he just can't seem to understand some players are not great kicks, and therefore should not have kick-out duties. Ox, Reid, Pendles and perhaps Ramsay should have been the ones.
Brown fumbled everything early but our usual mr fumbles, Frost, was surprisingly clean. Adams also had a bad case of the fumbles in that first half, and was generally not as good as we know he can be. Ditto Crisp.

Kid hasn't played a lot of footy during the preseason so expect his confidence to grow each week. Yes he is very one sided but I think he's shown he's got a few tricks. Still don't think we'll see him venture too far from defense and there really isn't any need at the moment as we've already got too many players to squeeze into the midfield.Pies4shaw wrote:He cannot play in the midfield, except as an occasional, very desperate, act - he is simply too one-sided. At the contest, when people are coming at you from all directions, you have to have a couple of moves (at least) that keep the opposition guessing. He only has one - that's why he gets closed down and pressured at times running out of the backline - even though he's very quick, the opposition always know which way he's going to go.swoop42 wrote:I like Williams willingness to take the game on.
I wonder if we could use him in a different role with more midfield time whilst Ramsay and Sinclair are available.

Winning ugly far better than losing and that ladies and gents is why you never ever leave early. The 1st 3 quarters was as poor a game as you'd ever see but the last quarter was electric, the come back sublime.
Still a lot of players not operating at 100% but you'd think that will come with more games. The next few rounds hopefully we can build to a point where we'll be competitive against the Weagles.

Agree on Gault- years away if at all.mudlark wrote:Sorry Rudey.I thought Grundy was terrible.Wits is a far more accomplished ruckman, but I would like them BOTH in the team.I think it works.
