Sure, he's a little slow, but is quicker than Witts. It's his ability to take strong marks around the ground which is his greatest asset, and one that we have been sorely missing, ever since Jolly retired. If we land him and get 4 good years out of him, that could well help deliver us 2 Premierships, and by that time, Grundy will be the best ruckman in the AFL.

I've been saying for a couple of years now, that having a dominant ruckman is the key to our Premiership success. Relying on both Witts and Grundy, two young developing ruckmen, was not ideal. Having a mature A grade ruckman alongside an emerging ruckman is ideal. The Kreuser/Grundy partnership would be ideal. Throw in Treloar and maybe Aish, then we are suddenly a genuine flag threat in 2016.
2016???

Hmmnnn...............Fair enough RB.

I would have thought 2017 at the earliest but I respect your optimistic and very exciting view.

Except for Witts speed I agree. Assuming he's fit would be good.

NO!!!

Seriously? When does our premiership window open with our young players?
Suggest 2017 at earliest and probably 2018.

By then the ragged body of MK will be 29 at the start of the window.
Contrast, the maturing and bulking body of a 209cm Witts will be 25.

Do not trade out Witts!!! Craziness!!

I don't see this as a great concern.

Assuming we trade 1st rounder and Witts for Treloar, sure we are losing a young ruckmen but we gain a potential A Grade midfielder the same age.

Our future ruck stocks is in great hands, Grundy is a year younger than Witts and is already ahead of him in the pecking order.

I dont feel as though our premiership window is that far away either. With a bit of luck and with the evenness of the competition an addition of Krezuer could bridge the gap of difference for us. We lost 6 or 7 games by less than two goals. The tail of 2015 could be so different right now.

The other important piece of the puzzle to the whole Kreuzer in Witts out possibility is that im sure (correct me if im wrong), the free agency period is prior to the trade period.

So we will know if we have landed Kreuzer before potentially parting ways with Witts.

Just think that with Grundy, Witts, Cox, Moore, White and potentially Keeffe, the ruck isn't an area we need to bolster and I think his recruitment would in fact derail the development of the kids we already have.

I do agree though that if we were to recruit him Witts does become more tradable.
So are you the the "we need more midfielders/halfbacks" camp or do you agree we need at least ONE good KPP?
I've been consistently saying we need additional KPP depth. Not sure if that is a bigger or lesser need than improvement to the midfield via recruiting a player like Treloar.

I do think that there will be natural improvement in the midfield next season. Players like Grundy, Witts, Adams, Crisp, Broomhead, DeGoey and Kennedy all get another preseason under their belts. A player like Greenwood gets his second preseason with the team. Pendles and Swanny can get their bodies right. Hopefully Freeman finally gets a decent go at it. It all suggests we should have improvement there and if we can get to at least 50/50 in clearances the team will be a lot more competitive. Now we can potentially add Treloar and that should boost that improvement.

So when will the club have the discussion with Witts? Pre or post securing Kruezer? What happens if Witts say thanks but no thanks? He does have a contract doesn't he?

^^ I can't imagine that Witts would want to stay once Collingwood told him that they want to trade him out. It wouldn't be a good feeling.

Anyway, I expect he would be keen to go to another club that wants him and can offer him the number 1 ruck position.

You'd like to think they would be pretty open about his options when he sits down for his exit interview at seasons end.

Bare in mind, this is assuming the powers to be are considering something down these lines.

As mentioned earlier, if we are to secure Kreuzer and move on Witts, theres no reason why we have to trade directly to GWS. A Carlton or WB may be willing to part ways with a late first rounder which could be used to secure Aish.

Yeah I appreciate all that however the "sod off, I've got a contract and I'm staying" option is still there. Could do a Jack Anthony as well.

IF we dont get Kruzer, we cannot possible trade Witts, we cannot have just Grundy and the big Yank for backup, what if grundy goes down injured, we are left with a big but raw Yank, hes not ready fulltime yet for ruck duties. If we dont get Kruz, witts has too stay, its obvious.

Jessie White can play ruck. How important is the ruck position when you see what Mckernan did to us on the weekend? He's a part timer at best but killed us around the ground
