Couple that with Adams for Shaw and it's like we've brought in 3 top 10 Picks in the last couple of years, + 3 other top 20 picks, all while making finals.
I mentioned that we had picked up essentially 6 first rounders in the last two years without missing finals to a mate who is a St Vomit supporter. He was suitably irritated and threw quite a few profanities my way

Also, if we somehow managed to snatch Scharenberg and Bontempelli on top of picking up Adams this year I think I might have to check I haven't died and gone to heaven.
before you get too carried away with yourself, have a look at how many scharenberg types GWS has picked up in the last 3 years. If you want to really salivate, imagine if you were taking Boyd and Kelly this year after getting the top 3 picks last year and the top 6 picks the year before. NOw THAT would me me salivate.

I just cant see how a team that gets 15-20 top 10 picks over a three year period (including the top 3 players in each draft) doesnt become unstoppable when that group is 21-23. Especially if they can carefully recruit a few mature bodies to complement them (like Heath Swaw and others).

However excited you are about Taylor Adams, you should know that at the time that GWS drafted him, they thought he was the 10th best player they got in 2011. That means they have 9 players on their list (8 if you allow for the fact that Dyson has left and will be replaced most likely by Kelly) who they thought were even better than Taylor Adams (and all of whom have the same upside as Taylor)!

Who's getting carried away? We all know that the AFL has created two monsters in GC and GWS. We just have to hope that their coaching/admin is incompetent enough that they won't be so dominant that they destroy public interest in the comp from Victorians and South/West Australians :/

Shouldn't stop us from getting excited about our own new recruits. What do you want me to do? Just say what's the point, coz GWS will kill us in a couple of years? Sounds very Jack Spainish which is not what I'm aiming for

That doesn't mean they were right. In 2001 there were supposedly 57 better players than Dane swan.

GWS and GC will have as many duds as hits, Adams is now considered the 2nd or 3rd best from that draft. As for them becoming monsters, when their players hit 23/24 they're going to demand more money, the salary cap and 'go home' factors will start to bite.

The expansion teams will have 1-3 years each to really challenge unless they build a Geelong type culture of players taking paycuts to stay and play for premierships.

The false assumption you have is that GWS will have a 100% strike rate with all these kids becoming absolute guns. History shows that his will never be the case.
Also there are heaps of examples where players picked between 30 - 50 have gone on to become much better players than the ones picked between 1 - 20.
They may have more tickets in the raffle but the ultimate winner could be another club/other clubs with just one or two tickets in it.......

Jay Clarke on SEN just now reckons Sharenberg will slide to 6 and we'll pick him up there.

At 10 KB sort of glossed over it but sounds as though he liked Bont to get to us.

Would have to be happy with that!

I still think we get shareberg and Lennon and we are very happy with that, especially since we have Darcy coming in next year.

Fairly handy starting 18!

Toovey Brown Keefe
Sharenberg Reid Williams
Sidey Thomas O'brien
Lennon Moore Adams
Swan Cloke White

Grundy Pendles Beams

yes, you are correct. I am sure that Cameron will be a fail, as will Boyd! I'm telling you, there are misses, but not by much these days.

Think of how many top 10 players we have drafted in past 10 years vs the rest and run the numbers on how many became guns. I think its 100% guns, and all of them All australian calibre or close.

It is true that you can get lucky in the draft, includiing the rookie draft, but it is no concidence that 9 out of every 10 gun players is taken in the top 10. I am talking about the truly elite.

Egan was AA???

And even if the pies record for top 10 guns has been excellent recently, SOS is no Hine. He passed on Wingard for one. There will be a few high picks from GWS who don't perform to expectations.

Top 10 selections are great, but it helps when your recruiters are ridiculously good. Not convinced that GWS' are yet, but given the sheer magnitude of top picks they received, it probably won't matter.

We have Derek Hine and Matt Rendell with proven track records and are a destination of choice.
GWS have Steven Silvagni and are not a destination of choice. Jo Silvagni is the brains of that household.

Patten, Coniglio, Tyson, Hoskin-Elliott, Buntine, Haynes, Tomlinson, Sumner Greene were all taken before Adams in 2011.
Whitfield, O'Rourke, Plowman with top 3 in 2012 draft.

While I appreciate they are still very young and playing in a team without success, who has outshone Adams of this lot? Greene in year 1 maybe but no in 2013 and Whitfield will make a player but look at all of the really high picks and tell me which are going to be out and out stars?

Silvagni has probably only got Callan Ward right of the mature recruits - O'Hailpin, Scully, Thornton, Power, Cornes, Brogan etc.
Did select Giles as a mature, untested talent though.

Still, the track record so far leaves me underwhelmed and i am not sure GWS will be such a threat as the Suns are likely (with Ablett, O'Meara, Thompson, Martin, Dixon, Bennell etc) to be.

Bit premature to be rating the 2011 & 2012 GWS draftees, even comparisons with Adams. Revisit that discussion in 3-4 years and I think you'll find most of them will be players.

And I think judge Scully a little harshly because he was a number 1 pick. Had a good year this year and would be an absolute gun at the Pies, Hawks, or Cats.

According to what one reads, this is a super draft ( for the top ten anyway). If GWS or the Gold Coast had all their picks this year, they would be unstoppable, you would think.
