The state of play with two days to go and why I wouldn’t be too concerned just yet.
Collingwood current draft hand - 16, 41, 50, 51.
Collingwood 2023 draft hand - future first rounder, future third rounder
Player acquisitions completed - Hill for future second rounder and McStay was no trade required.
Possible players to be acquired - The press are saying a mid to late second rounder gets the Mitchell deal done. The Suns want a future second ( or maybe third ) rounder for Fiorini and the Crows we’re looking for a future third rounder for Frampton.
Collingwood trade outs still to be done - Grundy and possibly Henry.
Let’s consider a conservative trade of Grundy + pick 41 = pick 27 + Dees future second rounder ( tied to Freo and that likely translates to low thirties in a strong draft ) I will exclude Henry for now because there’s too much uncertainty to consider the outcome.
This would leave us with pick 27 to secure Mitchell ( if that’s what the club wants ) a future third rounder we already have for Frampton and a newly acquired second rounder from the Dees ( tied to Freo ) for Fiorini. All this can be done without involving Henry but is subject to cap restrictions and the press being on the money about our targets.
So potentially we could end up losing Grundy, pick 27 + our future second and third rounders out = McStay, Hill, Frampton, Mitchell and Fiorini all in.
Draft hand would be 16, 50 and 51 and our future first rounder remains intact.
If you don’t like Mitchell or Fiorini, then just send the picks back to Collingwood and redo the sums. If you want to be greedy, then add more for the Grundy trade. If you don’t think Grundy goes, then redo the sums with him staying ( but also with an impact on our salary cap )
Either way, I don’t see any reason to be putting the cue in the rack just yet.

My mail is that Melbourne and Collingwood have had an agreement for some time now. No one is bending anyone over a barrel. But I've also heard that very recently Grundy has flipped and is desperate to stay at the club. Who knows?

I’ve never heard two clubs both be so adamant about where a player will be next year. Also, if you think Collingwood is going to hand hawthorn the draft pk they receive from Melb for Grundy, then why would they care if it’s 25 or 21??
I doubt that would be the stumbling block to get Mitchell.
