Where is Leon Davis in our worst? Once again mate you need to ditch these, they're broken.AN_Inkling wrote:I believe Toovey played on Byrnes. Played a good game too. And no, he does not lack courage. You say he pulled out of contests? Not that I noticed, but there are reasons to do so, that do not point to a lack of courage. Far from our worst on Friday (our three worst? Wood, Dawes, O'Bree).
Leon didn't seem to want the ball on Friday night.

No. Those were our worst three players. Leon didn't have a great one, but was not in our bottom three.jack_spain wrote:Where is Leon Davis in our worst? If you think any of those played better than Leon - then you're the one with rose-coloured glasses.

At least OBree kicked a goal and had a couple more tackles than Leon ink! I would of had O'Bree ahead of Leon on the night.

It happened because there were no leading forwards - they were all well covered by a very well ordered Geelong defence. A kick to the hot spot was also low percentage as when they did that often it was cleared back out the other way and rebounded back very quickly. Thus we were forced again to try entry via the flanks with low percentage results also but at least we maintained possession for longer at that time. On another note< I don't think adding Anthony would have made any difference either. Scarlett would have just licked his lips, gone to Anthony and played through him again. Dawes is not sufficiently dangerous yet that Geelong would worried about the consequences if Scarlett took Anthony.mahonmagpie wrote:Geelong only beat us on the quality of their entry inside 50 in the second half. Our defence was solid and we looked faster and with greater indurance. Mid way during the third quarter we stopped taking the game on - that is a mental thing. The same thing happen against St Kilda. Leadership group and coaches need to work on the team belief. Delivery inside 50 need more work. Why don't we attack the hot spot instead of heading to the boundry? We a deliberately kicking the ball out of bounds in the forward pocket for a throw in - low percentage move. I understand doing it when no one is in forward 50, but not all the time. Team rules need regigging - no stupid danergous leads into low percentage tight angles or surrounded by taller defenders in numbers. Honour the first lead from a marking forward - or kick to the hot spot. Don't kick back out of forward 50 unless a player is by himself - and only to open up the other side of ground. And bloody kick to the chest or at least advantage to our forward - not over their head or to an opposition defender unattended. Keep it simple, back your skills and team mates and move it quickly.

Leon must be dropped next week. He is a passenger right now, and we cannot continue to play passengers.
Medhurst in for Leon.
As for the game, well...Geelong were better on the night. Had we not butchered the ball so much, and moved the ball better, I reckon the scoreline would have looked a lot better.

Am I the ONLY poster here who is really scared that this might be the beginning of a slump for us? I thought that when the Cats went up a gear in the middle of the third quarter, we looked tired and deflated, even showed some panic in the back line. The back line is especially crucial for a win against the Lions. I know we travel well and "should" beat the Lions but let me tell you that I'm extremely worried at this stage about the flat and jaded Magpie team that played the second part of the third quarter and then the fourth. Lacked cohesion, class and committment to the cause.

Have some faith Lazza. I'm sure the coaching staff and match committee will tweak the side slightly this week to inject some fresh legs after a grueling month and we will come out and smash the Brions!

I probably needed to hear that. I may become more and more optimistic as the week goes on. Still in disappointment mode after the lackluster second half..... I genuinely hope that it is NOT the start of a form slump... Winning momentum and the consequent confidence is very important if we are to really have a red hot crack at the flag this year.1eyedpie wrote:Lazza wrote:Am I the ONLY poster here who is really scared that this might be the beginning of a slump for us? Very frustrating game to watch, we flooded too much and played very dumb football. Our Forwards have to keep in the 50 and stay dangerous, our crumbers were very poor, except for Beams.
Was happy with Heater, BJ, Didak and Swanny - the rest of the side had a crack , but the cats were too good when it needed to be won. I think JA would have made Scarlett accountable.

They both definitely played too high. I think they were trying to create space behind them, but it failed badly the other night. Atleast one of them should stay at home at all times, along with a small forward.mudlark wrote:An interesting and very disturbing stat came from Fridays game. Cloke and Dawes did NOT have a single possesion between them, inside 50.Not one??? How are you supposed to win a game when your 2 main forwards don't have a single possy between them inside 50??The Beast got flogged.
