Interesting comments from our own Dave86 on the bigfooty site which I tend to agree with.

If we miss on Scharenberg and take Aish at pick 6 I'd rather we go with a big bodied midfielder like Lennon, Bontempelli (if he's still there) or Acres instead of Salem as a point of difference to what we already have on our list.

Got this fantastic idea to wait until draft day instead of getting frustrated by pure guesswork..... . 8)

According to the journos we are apparently drafting 2 of 10 players, throwing a new name in every other week. To everyone freaking out about McCarthy, just remember what Hine has said about this years draft which was "We will be drafting the best player available at that selection". Is McCarthy the best player after 9 selections? I wouldn't think so.

Fair dinkum.

We still have a week left of this and I'm already tearing my hair out.
We better not end up with that scenario... because if we do, the AFL will have no choice but to yield to the screeching of the other 17 clubs and arrest Dekka for draft theft and slap him in the clink.

We'll then be left with Rendell to do our recruiting, who would be one gaffe away from joining Hine for a stint at His Fat Majesty's pleasure...

That's the Crown jewels right there, Aish and Scharenberg. We'll all be locked up for grand theft should we get them. Everyone black 'n white that is.

At least West Coast can't complain, this was kind of their doing. Unless of course someone somehow decides to take Dom Sheed before they do, in which case would be god damn hilarious.

At 10 KB sort of glossed over it but sounds as though he liked Bont to get to us.

Would have to be happy with that!
KB wouldn't know if his d.ick was tied on backwards.

I'd still take him even if it meant half a year/full season on the sidelines.

Plenty of players have come into the draft with injury concerns over them with Chris Judd being the obvious one who comes to mind.

Yep I'd still take him. Just a little more short term pain for some long term (potential) gain.

Some of the current talk:
- Aish or Scharenberg could slide to pick 10
- we traded up in the draft to secure Salem (thought was that the Swans would deal for pick 9 and were a strong chance to take him)
- Most predicting Bontempelli and Lennon to be taken later than 10

Not saying I put any weight on the above, especially the reasons for us trading up, just some of the talk going around.

Lee Walker and Danny Roach being two others.....

it would be ironic if the player we picked up with the compensation pick we got for Daisy (who has a chronic foot problem) was a talented game changing player with chronic feet problems.

^Dyson Heppell was a slider because of injury too. The Dopers couldn't believe their luck when he was still there for them.

It's a mixed bag when it comes to injuries with junior recruits. I would be happy to see Scharenberg in black and white despite his foot injuries. Talent like that is worth rolling the dice on.

If there are serious questions about Scharenberg's ongoing fitness, then I think it almost rules him out at 6. It's an added con, and this early in the draft, others surely go past him.

Yes, sometimes players with injuries end up being ok, but other times they don't. It's an added risk, and that's why a player with serious questions over their future fitness has to slide. Some recent examples where it hasn't (or hasn't yet) gone so well: Troy and Daniel Menzel, Tom Swift.
