ABC broadcaster says Liberal government wrong, Labor government perfect, what a shocking revelation. But he’s a doctor so he becomes the expert on everything...
But how anyone can say they’d prefer to be in Victoria right now?
NSW, competently managing a small outbreak without need to lockdown an entire state
VIC, gets a handful of cases and goes into panic mode. Whilst the Premier is on holidays, he cancels every other Victorian families holidays and gives them 5 hours notice to get home. Yet they forced people who’ve been drinking to drive home to an area with more active virus cases than regional NSW has ever had!

And he isn't the only one. Any unbiased view of the facts shows NSW has out performed Victoria by a ridiculous level. What'sinaname wrote:You still haven't addressed the point. We exported COVID to NSW but they took it in their stride while we went to lockdown.watt price tully wrote:

we had zero community cases quite recently then Gladys has exported it, due in part to lax responses by NSW.
From someone who reads extremist websites for their news than I'll give your comment about politics the attention it deserves.......too much already.
You refuse to learn from NSW because they are a Liberal government.

Victoria hasn’t exported COVID anywhere. If you want to look at the large part of the initial spread it started with the Ruby Princess. Which state? What'sinaname wrote:You still haven't addressed the point. We exported COVID to NSW but they took it in their stride while we went to lockdown.watt price tully wrote:

However we are talking about the here and now & this current spread has started in the Northern Beaches: tip the northern beaches are in which state?

Lets not forget the 2 victorians who caught the virus at that Thai restaurent but were in NSW when they tested positive.
Anyway, arguing over anyone "exporting" the virus, as if anyone would do it deliberately, is just petty bullshit.
In a free country you have the right to expect some freedom of movement and all state governments should be equipped to deal with the occasional small spot fire like this.

"Should be equipped" is fine but I do not want to risk it when we can simply close the borders until the virus is under control. Yes, there will be inconveniences to some but that is nothing compared to the whole state going into lockdown again. Now is not the time to brag about contract tracing. Dan's dithering has already meant that we are back to wearing masks in places where we were free of them. Why risk further restrictions when we could have simply closed the borders?
kill for collingwood!
But who **** cares who has out performed whom? Does that really make any difference to the here and now? Right now, NSW are on the precipice of a major outbreak, and while I wish them all the best, I do not want us to risk what we have achieved through much pain and anguish.stui magpie wrote: And he isn't the only one. ^ Because people who want to say it's not about politics want to make it political.
What happened in Victoria was awful. The worldwide experience shows us, however, that Australia has been very, very lucky - and that the only thing that has spared us hundreds of thousands of cases and many thousands of deaths is the strictness with which Victoria locked down. To pretend otherwise is just selfish and stupid. With the benefit of that hindsight, knowing that you can reduce a dangerous outbreak to nothing, a strict response is the only appropriate response.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-01-03/ ... s/13028344Victoria has recorded three new locally acquired coronavirus cases overnight, as the state works to contain a cluster linked to a restaurant in Melbourne's south-east.
The new infections were detected from 22,477 test results processed on Saturday, amid long lines at testing sites.
All three new cases are linked to a cluster at the Smile Buffalo Thai restaurant in Black Rock, bringing the total number of COVID-19 infections linked to the restaurant to 21.
Authorities confirmed on Saturday the cluster was "directly linked" through genomic sequencing to the outbreak in New South Wales.
Deputy Chief Health Officer Allen Cheng said 13 of the cases dined at the restaurant on December 21.
"The other eight cases are all linked, either directly or indirectly, basically through family gatherings at Christmas," Professor Cheng said.
He said there were about 220 close contacts in 14-day quarantine and about 360 secondary contacts.
"With this number of close contacts, we are expecting at least some of them may become case over the next week or so," he said, adding the risk of transmission was reduced because they were quarantining already.
Health authorities are still working to identify the "index case" in the cluster.

No, but it was Andrews fault that the contact tracing team was woefully under resourced, in terms of staffing, systems and processes.Dave The Man wrote:That was not Andrews Fault that the Securiy Guards where IdiotsFunny thing is, Gladys is using the same strategy that Andrews tried when the hotel quarantine outbreak happened. The difference is, Andrews failed and had to resort to hard lockdown, Gladys is succeeding.
That was then, this is now. Andrews has supposedly improved his contact tracing resources to be equal to what NSW has had since day dot
