Here's hopingWith a significant contribution from Australian science, COVID-19 is now the most treatable respiratory virus known to man. The case-to-fatality ratio of Omicron is likely to be less than that of influenza, and not a particularly bad flu at that. That will allow us to release all but the least intrusive of restrictions.

ICU patients have halved in the last week. While the doom and gloomers will try to tell you the end of the world is nigh, it's not.Dave The Man wrote: We are all Hoping that but I would also not get my hopes up Too High just yet
The media love the doom and gloom as they need content and clicks. It doesn't get clicks if they say COVID is less concerning than the flu.

Not according to Dr Nick Coatsworth in today's Age Newspaper. He predicts the COVID pandemic will be over sometime during 2022 due to the vaccinations and improved forms of treatment. He also states that the Omicron strain is much less severe than previous strains and even if you get it you're unlikely to suffer the same life threatening conditions from previous COVID. And vaccinations are still effective against the Omicron strain. You're more likely to get Omicron even if you've been vaccinated but you're much less likely to die of the Omicron strain, particularly if you've been vaccinated. I'm sure they'll be medical experts and epidemiologists who disagree with Dr Nick Coatsworth, but what all the medical experts do agree on is the benefits of the vaccines.Magpietothemax wrote:I am sorry E, but this comment is totally unacceptable. COVID is NOT just a "runny nose". Read the latest report from OzSAG. Covid is an insidious and unpredictable disease which has unknown future implications, In particular, the consequences of Long Covid are not yet known, but according the OzSAG report I referenced above, the virus remains in many organs (including the brain) long after the initial infection has been fought off. It is predicted that at least 10% of those infected by the virus will be afflicted by Long Covid.E wrote:COVID isolation is soooo 2021!!!burnsy17 wrote:Or more likely in Covid Isolation!
2022 is going to be the year of getting on with it. If you are fully vaxxed with a booster shot, COVID is nothing more than a runny nose and sore throat for one day! Isolation to avoid others getting that (even without the boosters, its just 24 hours of fatigue added in). Ridiculous. Nearly every single person in new york has covid right now. you wouldn't know that by looking at hospital numbers because we all fully vaxxed!!!! Time for government's to get with the reality of the situation on the ground.
if you are too stupid to get the vaccine, then i feel a little like Ivan Drago - "if he dies, he dies"....
If you have covid, do what they have done in Asia for 100 years. Wear a mask out of respect for others. but just get on with it!
Moreover, with the emergence of Omicron, even if you have had two shots, you are effectively unvaccinated against this variant.
This is a dangerous disease, and the long term effects are unknown. Please do not spread false information about this disease.
I think you’ll likely find that’s rubbish. The Victorian Government, at least, only counts the number of people in ICU who still have active COVID - if their COVID is no longer “active” (so that they’re just dying from it), they aren’t in the count (that meant that the almost 100 ICU cases yesterday in Victoria was reported as about 50). Without being interested in pursuing all of the ways in which all of the jurisdictions are telling their own irresponsible versions of the “truth”, you should assume that they all (except, possibly, WA) have a vested interest in understating the impact of the present version of the disease on our health systems - elections will turn upon how glib the stories are.
Optimism performs an occasionally useful function, provided there’s a good factual basis for being optimistic. In other circumstances, it’s just dangerously stupid folly that risks people’s lives.

So with that do you want to go back to Lockdown to try and Save People's Lives?Pies4shaw wrote:I think you’ll likely find that’s rubbish. I do agree I hate when Hearing the Media/People saying it's over because of Vaccines. Vaccines help a Bloody Lot but still no Guarantee. Need something that can Treat Covid when Someone has it before we get to the next Good Step

Dave we are all over it, well and truly, but at least me you and your mates dog can escape thinking about it now and then, think about the people working in hospitals etc.
The truth needs to be told, and it’s a fact that far too many icu beds are occupied due to covid, active or not.
You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!

Yet in Victoria, dodgy reporting or not, those cases make up less than 10% of the ICU capacity so while the front line workers would be bloody busy the system is not stretched or anywhere near breaking point.
With the changes to testing requiements the daily case numbers become truly meaningless as they will be massively understated, the real measures will be hospitalisations and ICU cases.
Up in Toc it seems like all the Victorians left their masks at home. The supermarket is jam packed with maskless people and very few bother to use the QR checkins and no-one cares.
