Curious to know how long your ride is. A fifty minute bike ride for me means that I have travelled from one side of Pakenham ... to the other side

15 km's, however there are lots of lights. Sunday morning 6 am - no traffic to speak of & good run with lights using the main roads is 40 - I've only done a bit less of a few occasions & riding fast - tyres are at 125 PSI (and no bloody head wind)

A few weeks of consistent riding (like anything else) & you'd be surprized. I couldn't jog too far these days.

5 reasons why bike riding is the most humiliating exercise.

http://www.cracked.com/article_19063_5- ... rcise.html
A lot of people don't find bike riding very impressive as a sport, because how hard can it be? Little kids learn how to ride bikes before they learn how to tie their shoes (which is a little dangerous if you think about it).

Well, I started riding to get in shape recently and learned that there's a big difference between bike riding and serious bike riding. Doing all the things "right" according to the pros seems at times like a terrible initiation prank designed to kill or embarrass new riders. I can only conclude that there are a limited number of slots in the Real Bicyclists Club and they are dedicated to keeping applicants out by making them deal with things like this...

I told junior I'd get up early tomorrow and go for a bike ride with her before it gets hot - my arse hates me already - and I have those padded bike shorts!

Need to learn to shut up!

If I decide to start cycling it will be on one of them.

Got on my bike for the first tie in about 4 weeks. F*cking hot but loved it (both ways). It'll take a few weeks to get 'up to speed "again & remember I'm not 25 anymore.

I heard someone refer to that as "Superman Syndrome", when people of, ahem, more mature age (like you and I) think we can still do physically what we could do in our 20's, without doing any training first.

Heard some great stories, usually they don't end well. :P

I have several personal examples. Some that ended well like the time I not long ago lifted the front of a car out of a ditch so the driver could reverse out, and several that didn't end so well.

Speaking of bicycles:

I was at my sister in law's a week or so ago & she lives near you (sort of) in Wattle Glen. I have no idea how cyclists cycle there. The roads are so narrow & the car drivers drive too fast.

All they need to do is widen the road a bit on both sides & then there'd be room for all.

Back there after an am shift for Christmas lunch - hopefully it won't be busy at work or on the roads.

It's not the effort, it's my poor old arse. Padded pants, gel seat, I feel like nappy woman. And yet it still feels like I've straddled a piece of RHS.

It's about 12-13 k, on bike tracks too deaf for the road!

That's great TP. In a short space of time it won't be an issue (like anything just doing it, practice).

Had a run in witha cyclist yesterday. He wanted to be my hood ornament when he failed to give way to all cars and when I hit the horn to warn him he abused me and continued at the set of lights. I just laughed at him as my dash cam was catching all the audio of. He then motions me to get out the car. I simply said, "ride away now and I will forget all of this happened". He continues to abuse me as I turn the dash cam on him. I said I warned you, now I am on my way to St Kilda Rd Police Station and hand them the video of your antics. I then moved slowly off. The Video is with Vic Pol. :D

What is it with people who are not in a protective metal box thinking they can arrogantly push their 'right of way' without so much as checking to see if everyone else is on board with it? No wonder so many cyclists and pedestrians end up squashed. I was at a busy cross road and some guy on a mobility scooter decided to start crossing the far road without even checking if I'd noticed him or was going to wait. As it happened I hadn't seen him coming but luckily did notice him at the last second just before I took off. Now if I'd been a slightly less alert driver this guy would've been dead, all because he didn't bother to ensure his own safety, relying on ME to protect him. This rider seems the same "Oh well, I don't have to give way, drivers will see me and stop". What about when one doesn't?
