11 klms, wind blowing like the beejesus the wrong way of course, past point cook, perving at the houses, quite nice then round the back of the very boring scenery that is sanctuary lakes. all the houses look the same, all dull light brick or render going cacky with the weather. crossed over a bridge, rode back around the back of altona meadows, some nice houses and backyards, and lots of interesting graffiti to read!!

so my butt is ok, my legs arnt burning yet, took about 45 minutes, but I have a stinking cold so not much energy, didn't have the tools to adjust the seat properly, so my knees were going past 90 deg, hard to peddle, and then the handle bars came loose, flipped around and started wobbling from side to side.

the one in my gym is perfect, perfect condition, perfectly maintained. by me. it also has a tv parked in front of it.

but hey, it was good to spend time with junior. well it was nice to watch her ride a mile in front of me anyway!!

now for a swim in my nice warm pool before I go pick up the beloved from his Christmas lunch. had to pick up junior at 4am this morning from the nightclub again. just call me taxi!

there's two gears on a bike, standing up and sitting down.

Up a hill use little gears - lots of peddalling. Head wind the same.

On a flat you'll find what's comfy for you: not the most not the least - I tend to use mid of the higher gears.

Down hill bigger gears with less pedalling.

As LD noted, at times you might want to stand - good workout for your quads.

(Later on it's worth hiring a bicycle coach for a some sessions crazy as this might sound. They can assist you with this type of thing & cadence. Look up cadence on google. This is for down the track so to speak & can give you really good suggestions about posture, technique & how to use your gears best).

Oh Kay!

Need more info

Little gears - I peddle fast don't seem to go anywhere but it doesn't hurt? So is that low and 1?

I tend to stand up quite a bit. I'm not the most patient person in the world!

I wore my epulse heart monitor this time, it constantly measures on the inside of your forearm. I kept to min 146 for a break after a sprint, mostly in the 150-155 range, with sprints and effort against wind/hills to 164, (I'm 50 so my max heart rate is 170, but that doesn't really take fitness into account, so I go past the 90% recommendation! Um, well from time to time! probably a bit too often!)

It's not a bad workout. I had too many clothes on, so was hot and sweating to quickly, but it seemed chilly when I left. Next time I'll go back to shorts and a singlet.

I just bought a source pro hydration backpack (good for jogging to so..) from eBay, cos I don't even have a bottle holder on the old bomb bike! And I was dying of thirst, and even the bugs I swallowed ( how do u stop that by the way?) were thirsty.

The plus side, my arse ain't sore yet!

And thanks for the info, much appreciated

The Video is with Vic Pol. :D

Pretty simple, separate cars and bikes. Problem solved. Governments these days don't like building things though.

Talking State governments, Kennett was a builder AND a destroyer. The current Lib state government just kind of seems to be doing **** all, but then the previous lot did much the same.

What is it with people who are not in a protective metal box thinking they can arrogantly push their 'right of way' without so much as checking to see if everyone else is on board with it? No wonder so many cyclists and pedestrians end up squashed. I was at a busy cross road and some guy on a mobility scooter decided to start crossing the far road without even checking if I'd noticed him or was going to wait. As it happened I hadn't seen him coming but luckily did notice him at the last second just before I took off. Now if I'd been a slightly less alert driver this guy would've been dead, all because he didn't bother to ensure his own safety, relying on ME to protect him. This rider seems the same "Oh well, I don't have to give way, drivers will see me and stop". What about when one doesn't?
Arrogance I s'pose. Yet cyclist is worse off once the two come together.

Need to get recreational cyclist back on footpaths, and if some cyclists want to ride on roads, they need to be registered and licensed.

At mount beauty for the night, came to pick up junior. Coming down the mountain from bright, a ton of cyclists with a death wish, one played chicken with us for about 4 klm, he must have been coasting at 50-60kph. Around blind bends, going over, well over the centre line, no way we could get past, seriously stupid, one dip inthe road he would be toast
