Yes, your role as a journalist is to report things as they are. It is emphatically NOT your role to wallow in lies, distortions, and outright fraud. Yes, absolutely, you report that a significant actor in national affairs has said those things - that reporting is telling things as they are. However, to simply carry such dangerous lies as if they were straight news is utterly wrong.

Think about it this way: you wouldn't spend a whole news bulletin providing every detail of any other egotistical psycho's paranoid delusions - delusions let us note, that not even the Republican Party shares; delusions that even the despicable Murdoch press condemned. Report that Trump has them, and move on.

^ Dad has, I'm afraid, fallen asleep at the wheel. They may be still counting votes but there's been nothing new for a while, now.

Some new figures in Georgia - Trump leads now by just 1,267. In the last batch, just 668 votes were added, 603 of them for Biden.

Well, perhaps we’re in furious agreement here. For me, you report the fact of the claims being made as hard news and then (or simultaneously, as some organisations have started doing) fact-check and contextualise them as analysis. But I do think it worth stressing that Trump is not any other egotistical psycho; he’s the president of the United States. He’s also not the first world leader to regularly tell lies or engage in paranoid delusions, and standard news coverage in international media of comments by, say, Mahathir Mohamad or Alexander Lukashenko is probably the standard to aspire to here. I don’t see a need to invent new journalistic approaches to cope with an age-old problem. (At any rate, I don’t think there is anything special about what MSNBC et al are doing; I think they’re just trying to craft a perception of their own integrity for the sake of keeping their mostly already ideologically aligned viewers on side.)

Don't recall too much about those two, David, but I clearly remember the way news services dealt with others of Trump's kind. (Kim Jong-un, for example, or Idi Amin.)

Counting is proceeding at snail's pace in Pennsylvania, also. Latest figures have Trump ahead of Biden by just 18,224 votes. That's after counting a further 5,799 votes, of which 5073 (about 87.5%) were for Biden and just 726 were for Trump.

I suppose I should add that I'm not ignoring Arizona or Nevada - nothing is happening in either count.

America’s voting system is a joke,It should be easy to count a simple two person contest, but’s it’s taking them forever to finish the vote counting. If they had a complex preferential system like we do,it would take them six months to decide the election,

Georgia sweet Georgia: last as in most recent batch of votes 704 to Biden and 102 to Trump. Trump’s lead reduced to 665 and going south in a hurry (well relatively speaking)

Latest batch of 2790 votes in Georgia: 840 for Trump, 1950 for Biden. Trump's lead is now just 665 and shrinking fast.

16 Electoral Collage votes in Georgia will take Biden to 280.

Game over.

To be fair, I think they counted all the polling booth votes a while back, now they're mostly doing postal votes as they come in which depends on the post.
