Seems like even a couple of Republicans are troubled by this. It’s probably just a bit of distancing as they try to stop their Senate vote being caught up in Slumpy’s train wreck but maybe some of them actually accept that there’s a problem.

^ Isn’t the whole idea of presidential pardons and commutations just begging for corruption? I was obviously happy when Obama did it for Manning, but in general, what place does the executive ever have overruling the courts? It’s little surprise that Trump has used it to get cronies off the hook, and I expect he’s far from the first (one Gerald Ford comes to mind).

I've said all along that I'll be fascinated to see who Trump pardons just before he leaves office. I reckon he'll straight up pardon people if they can pay for it. He'll also pardon political allies and I wouldn't be surprised if he pardoned that cop who killed George Floyd just to troll the people he doesn't like.

There might be a timing issue there. You'd think it unlikely that the case would go to trial, be subject to the usual adjournments and delays, impanel a jury (that alone might take a week), run its course, and result in a verdict before the election in November.

Come to think of it though, Trump will remain in office as a lame duck up until sometime in the new year. It would be just like him to abuse the situation by pardoning all sorts of criminals.

It's my understanding that Trump has the authority to pardon him any time he wants. Even now if he wanted to.

Next time you come across Trump supporters online ask them if they'd be happy if the cop who killed George Floyd was pardoned. The ones I've asked don't want to answer it.

He can only Pardon someone who's been convicted of a federal offence.

No one has been convicted of anything yet and I understood the trial was under state law not federal, so in that case Trump can't pardon him now or ever.

Yes. You're right about him being charged under state law. However in regards to the pardoning under federal law wiki states:

'All federal pardon petitions are addressed to the President, who grants or denies the request. ... A federal pardon can be issued prior to the start of a legal case or inquiry, prior to any indictments being issued, for unspecified offenses, and prior to or after a conviction for a federal crime.'

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal ... ted_States

So Derek Chauvin can't be pardoned by Trump, but I'll still be fascinated to see who Trump pardons between now and the time he leaves office. I reckon there'll be some doozies.

Apparently, manipulating news cycles by tweeting vacuous rubbish is much easier than serious leadership and management. Who'd have thought?

"Florida Breaks U.S. Coronavirus Record for Most New Cases in a Day

The state recorded 15,300 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, easily passing the previous one-day high of 12,274 set at the height of the outbreak in New York in April."

I wouldn't take those numbers seriously. Positive test rates came back at 17% and there is evidence that multiple test sites have been reporting number of tests as positive tests. One centre reported 98% positive but the actual figure was 9.4%.

Florida and dodgy numbers.....who woulda thunk it!!

^ This would be Trumpist propaganda, yes? Or is this claim (sounds unlikely, I know, but stranger things have happened) from a reputable source?
