Last time I checked Buckley wasn’t trying to make a career selling snake oil and boneheaded diets. He was a great footballer and (depending on your perspective) good AFL coach. If your respect for sporting champions is based on a notion you’ve dreamed up that on top of that they also have all the right opinions, are always terrific blokes and aren’t capable of expressing dumb/offensive comments, then I expect you will have a lot more disappointments ahead of you in life.Mr Miyagi wrote:Sorry mods, didn’t know where to post this. Buckley’s questioned covid and his cosmetic nurse missus looks to be another “lockdown is like prison in my mega mansion!” Rebecca Judd. Oh dear. Well, I’ve lost a bit of respect for him if he’s another Pete Evans

I knew nothing about her until this, the little bit I now know about her suggests we turn her free immediately and drop her by parachute into the worst infected area of either Indonesia or India. What'sinaname wrote:Katie Hopkins can f*&k back to the UK if she thinks HQ is a joke.
Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

First thing he has said since he quit/got axed, and quite frankly he’s a dick for it, just look at Sydney’s numbers, so whatever he cops he cops, if you want to tweet you will get shredded, and rightly so, this has nothing to do with his football career and he gets no pass because of itDavid wrote:Last time I checked Buckley wasn’t trying to make a career selling snake oil and boneheaded diets. Channel 7 has dropped controversial British commentator Katie Hopkins from a reality television program after she bragged about flouting hotel quarantine rules in Sydney.
Ms Hopkins was sacked as a newspaper columnist and radio host in the United Kingdom for comparing migrants to cockroaches and calling for a "final solution" for Muslims, and was permanently banned from Twitter in 2020 for breaching the platform's "hateful conduct" policy.
While in hotel quarantine, ahead of appearing on Channel 7's Big Brother VIP, she boasted about the ways she was undermining the hotel's safety protocols, describing the lockdown as a "hoax."
Her actions have drawn widespread anger, with both government and opposition MPs condemning her behaviour and Australians stranded overseas demanding to know how she secured a place in quarantine.
The Seven Network and production company Endemol Shine Australia said in a statement that "Katie Hopkins is not a part of Big Brother VIP".
"Seven and Endemol Shine strongly condemn her irresponsible and reckless comments in hotel quarantine," the statement said.

^ I don't think it's going to go well in the UK, Dave. In the last week, new cases are up 42% on the previous week (from about 210,000 to nearly 300,000) and deaths are up 48% (from 192 to 284). The 7-day rolling average of new cases per day is doubling each fortnight. It reached a "low" of 1,952 per day" on 5 May 2021. By 19 May, it was still in a trough - around 2,270 cases per day. On 2 June, it was 3,606. On 16 June, it was 7,888. On 30 June, it was 18,899. On 14 July, it was 34,585. By 17 July, it is 42,475. Those are "smoothed" numbers, of course - that's the very point of using a rolling average. The actual daily number for 17 July (the most recent report from the UK) was over 12,000 higher than that rolling average - 54,674.
It's a strange time to be relaxing restrictions.

Whoever thought she was a good candidate for a spot on the show in the first place should give themselves an uppercut. They may not have been able to predict this exact eventuality, but they would have known precisely what kind of person she is and were willing to give her the attention she craves for ratings.Pies4shaw wrote:https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-18/ ... /100302662What'sinaname wrote:Katie Hopkins can f*&k back to the UK if she thinks HQ is a joke.

At some point you start to realise that commercial TV’s insistence on giving notorious racists like Hopkins and Pauline Hanson airtime is not merely clumsy, and not just a cynical ploy for manufacturing controversy, but actually reflects some deeply held political sympathies on the part of the people who run these shows and networks.

When in doubt, follow the money. It's all about creating controversy to profit from it through shameless cross promotion across the network and other media outlets. Leads to paywalled articles that people then pay to access, plus increased ratings / advertising revenue.
