I don't see why we can't be all the things people have spoken about.

I HATE losing. I've HATED seeing the CFC dwelling near the bottom of the competition. I HATE other supporters & clubs feeling sorry for us instead of despising us. I HATE seeing our guys sitting head in hands after a close loss. I HATE not seeing us play finals football.

I don't accept anything other than winning and being a successful football club, on and off the field. I am impatient. I want to demand greater success and in particular finals success. I've been patient so damn long and have heard those words, "we've got a young team and we're only a few years away from success" so many times that I hate saying those words myself.

BUT - at the end of the day I'm also a realist. Things DON'T happen overnight. Mick and Eddie aren't magicians (unfortunately!), so we have no choice but to be patient, as difficult as it is at times.

If we're feeling the pain, imagine how the players must have felt over the last few years and how devastated they'll be if we don't make the finals this year after so much improvement and so much hard work.

All Collingwood people should be aiming for the top and nothing less - but the only way we're going to get there is by being positive and working together as a team.

IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN and it will be so fulfilling to once again cry tears of joy instead of tears of pain.

GO PIES!

You all make good points - no doubt about it.

I would just like to say:

It IS possable to go from last to first.
It is possible to aim to be No1 next year AND achieve it.
It is just that it is VERY difficult.

We have come a long way in a short time. Mistakes have been made but that's inevitable. Credit to all those who have contributed to our rapid improvement with a plan to make it sustainable. It looks at this stage to be a great success.

The job is not done until we are No.1 - every year. We need to recruit well, run the admin etc well and be sucessful in every way. Then we have to improve on that. Then we have to get better still and continue along that path path forever. I know it's a big ask. I am asking.

I've sniped at things such as culture and Eddie (in selective areas) and even Mick Malthouse (again in selective areas - mostly on-field intransigence).

But with all the faults I've had with Eddie, I've always said I've respected what he's done with the Club. The one thing you got to realize is he didn't walk into a healthy Club, nor a healthy and prospering environment. It would've been easier had he walked into a new license, like Fremantle, where he could've built things from the ground-up.

On this point, I think Eddie and the incumbent Administration have done extraordinarily well, as has Mick Malthouse with the Team in off-field development, considering they were beginning from about 6-steps behind everybody else!

Malthouse begun with a Team which had a very shallow list, very few recognized stalwarts (Buckley, Burns, Richardson and Rocca was all, and Rocca was still a baby) and very few tradeable commodities. As far as trading goes, I think he's performed in exceptional fashion to cultivate the List we have today.

As for big names - no thanks in the last two years. The last thing you would've wanted in the last two years is a disruptive big name, like Spider Everitt, walking around and impressing his bad habits and mentality upon an extremely young group. Now I wouldn't mind - the guys have had two years, 40 games, and they're maturing, but back then, no thanks.

I'm not even going to go into Administrative woes because I'll take up hundreds of pages. But Eddie's done fantastically in restructuring the core of the Club. I mean, look at him bringing Malthouse down to the Club. St. Kilda had to throw out a million dollars for Blight and Richmond virtually signed Frawley because there were no other options left.

For the first time since 91, I actually feel very safe and comfortable with the Administration and Staff. I know Eddie's a supporter at heart (and that's where my problems with him lay when he tends to over-promote us, I think, through his media outlets - but we'd probably all do that) and has the best interests of the Club at heart.

And it's nice to know that when I become President I'll have a strong, thriving Club to inherit!

A team can go from close to last to first, but as Melbourne have proved recently, you can fall down just as quick.

In 1976 we were a disgrace on and off the field. From 1977 we played in 5 Grand Finals in 5 years. I know we didn't win one, but we came from nowhere to be what Collingwood stands for - competitive, dangerous and feared.
Same this time with a couple of flags please Eddie. If anyone can do it you can.
A few trades for a ruckman and defender and we are on the doorstep. I can hear the knocking now. It's a bloke holding a cup - he wants to come inside the social club to mount a display. LET HIM INNNNNN

yeah clubs can fall down quick alright but they cant fall if theyre already down now can they.
yeah we have a good history alright but in the old days there werent proper rules regarding recruiting, they used to BUY players so it was probably easier for teams like collingwood and carlton to be stronger than the cheap teams.
our recruiting agents better get some good players this draft of we will be going back to where we were. im sick of them wasting up perfectly good picks on players who dont make the cut (eg roach) they were just lucky with lonie and leon, they cant say 'oh we knew theyd be good' or they would have gotten them a whole lot earlier.
we probably will be up there soon, but until it actually happens i will remain skeptical....
