Hard to give the 1 & 2 votes this week: not too many stand-out best players for all 4 quarters, and the steady contributors - Burns, Cloke, O'Bree, Swan, and Pendles are examples - were just that: steady rather than brilliant.

In the end, I gave my 3 votes to Medders for his combination of three things: excellent work as a small, leading and crumbing forward; standing up to the Melbourne thugs when required (watch the tape again if you missed it - when Medders steps in with his strength and bulk, the oppo take notice); and for his fantastic effort in the packs both tackling and going for the ball. Clearly our best player on the night.

Two votes to Wakelin who never put a foot wrong and stood up all night. Kept his man quiet until late in the game when Melbourne were running hot and the great James Clement couldn't control Neitz. So who do you turn to when even Jimmy is getting smashed? Yep: Wakes. Guile, a cool head, great judgement of where the ball is headed, excellent body work, and fair-dinkum desperation at the pointy end of the game when the 4 points were on the line.

One vote to Leon. Only a 2 quarter player, went quiet in the middle of the game, but he was just so good while he was running hot that I had to break my usual rule of never giving votes to players who don't do something in all four quarters.

3: Medders
2: Wakes
1: Leon

how come nobody is putting in scotty burns for his hardness and tackling as well as ball use and pressure. He was surely deserving of a vote.
