Renouf is their #1 Ruck (although he IS rubbish ), from what I know Stratton is definitely in their best 22, and Ellis/Young probably are.
So those included with the players you have highlighted equals a completely decimated list.
Great to see new kids named, along with Fasolo/Buckley back in the running.
Considering we're overloaded with defenders atm, perhaps Fasolo will come back in before Buckley, especially if Buckley isn't 100% ready to go.
Glad to see Jol's back, hopefully Wood can continue improving in the VFL though, as he made some good steps forward during his stint in the seniors this time around.

We should win comfortably with the amount of outs the Hawks have. But they still have Franklin who we have had trouble to stop over the years. Hodge is a gun when he wants to be, Mitchell is in red-hot form and their new recruits are playing great football.
I think this contest might be closer than what people think.
I'm glad to see Jolly back in the side. Wood got smashed in the ruck last week against Seaby and I felt this affected the game outcome just slightly. Buckley being named in is good as well and I'm glad that even Fasolo, Rounds and Keefe may have a chance to be in the side. I think Fasolo and Jolly come into the side in my personal opinion.
Anyway I think Sunday will be a good contest and let's hope the predicted rain holds off.

Call me over cautious, but i fail to see the point of playing Jolly this week. Hawks don't have a bona-fide A-grade ruckman, so surely Wood could have been spared another week before getting dropped?mattys123 wrote:Jolly's back.

I really hope Jolly isn't being rushed back with his knee condition...

Rioli, Roughead, Sewell and Lewis are losses. Pretty much all the other mids have been overtaken by younger players. Gilham, Stratton and Schoenmakers would be very handy in defense, but they're hardly world-beaters.
Recently we've had Swan, Thomas, N.Brown, L.Brown, Jolly, Johnson, Beams, Macaffer, Dick out. I'd argue they are more significant outs. We were able to cover them.
The Hawks can cover their losses, and have been very well. Look at how they're playing, not who they have out. Sure, injuries are likely to negatively affect their performance at some point, but don't treat it as a certainty to be this weekend.

I agree about how well they are playing with players out. But they have lost from last week's team: Rioli, Sewell and Lewis. And they only have Murphy and Gibson to play on Cloke and Dawes and Brown and Jolly when resting forward. There's some real match up headaches there for Clarkson. He may have to drop Hodge into holes created by these outs and keep 2 ruckman on the ground at times just for some extra height forward and back. Which is not ideal from their point of view. We'll win if we can exploit these structural weaknesses. I would think Hawthorn are hoping for a wet scrap where our tall timber are less effective. Personally I hope the rain is gone by midday so Cloke and Dawes etc are the difference.
