Thread title a little mis-leading, but then positive Donny wrote it.
Pies were complete garbage against a reserve grade Essendon in the 1st qtr and a half.
There were also plenty of questionable free kicks going both ways, but particularly for the bummers.
We got on top in the 2nd half, albeit thanks to the Essendon injury toll. This obviously wore them down in the last qtr.
It's about time, we got back to playing 4 qtrs of good football, and also bring back our famous press, which has been missing for most of the season so far.
Power next week, and expect and hope the team can start to step it up from here, as we have the Saints, Freo and Cats to play before the finals start.

Oh, it is. Apparently the margin was totally not reflective of the gap (chasm) between the two sides, it was all due to injuries (apparently we don't have any ), it was all the umpire's fault (apparently they weren't actually watching the first half) and it was a very good effort and they'll definitely beat us next year.tomoleary wrote:I'm going over to read bomberblitz.com Should be enjoyable.

Never have I noticed Seven's commentary team so biased as it was today. Tim Watson might as well have played for Essendon. Dennis was only slightly behind, but at least he had the good grace to comment on the umpiring in the first half.
Both teams had significant injuries going in and the Bombers suffered more on the day but class won out after half time.
With seven premiership players missing, the Pies have been able to cover the losses well.
Scott Pendlebury may not get the possies of Swan, but he makes every one of them count. Superb effort today.
Nice work Pies!

After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!

^ I agree to an extent with part of the above (Duff's, not Neil's) aside from the Umpire BS.
Losing their sub and an interchange after the first 10 minutes of the game spells defeat for almost any team. With current interchange numbers fitness levels simply can't compete with it. It will probably have repercussions with their game next week too.
Plus whilst we have a few extremely good and important players out they're missing KPP's which provide a lot more stability to a teams structure.
The win was good in the end, and thoroughly enjoyable, but it was not a 'great' win. Just a solid one.

We played against a team missing most of their team and they also lost their interchange during the game..
It could have been a very very different result if not for their injuries during the game..
Games like these tend to get seen through the lens of retrospect by what happens later in the season; go through and smash it 4 the flag and its 'pies were waiting for the finals', manage to lose it from here and its 'writing was on the wall in the Bombers game'.
I really get a feeling it could go either way; we just don't look as hungry as I would like.
Which is why it's great to see Fasolo and to a lesser extend Sinclair playing so well, keep the pressure on.
My question to you; Do you flick Fasolo for Didak? 'Cause he seems to be playing his role at the moment and doing very well......
Probably the least inspiring 12 goal win in a long time.
Yes we had 6 players who most would consider in our best 22 out but considering Essendon were missing Fletcher, Hurley and Pears from there defence, lost 2 midfielders in the first quarter and had 2 others play out the game injured then it was a gallant performance by them for a half.
That first quarter by us was our worst performance for the year.
On the positive side that was Krakouers best game for a long while and probably shows why he'll remain in the side and Fasolo displayed why many of us rate him as the heir apparent to Didak.

A super win. Really can't be seen any other way. One poor quarter, but you have to take the match as a whole, and it was a super win.
Took a while to come to grips with their unusual game style - kicking short to about 50m out - and a while to match their intensity (they were up after last week's disappointing effort and knowing they were in for a tough matchup). Once we did we completely steam-rolled them, and i have no problem with that.
Yes, the Bombers were missing players. We were missing pretty much as many. They were missing KPPs? We were missing Dawes, and lets face it, Ryder's a better CHB than any of their other options. Fletcher's a big loss, the others not so much. The quality we were missing was far greater than theirs.
The impressive thing for me was the performance of our midfield. Missing Thomas, Wellingham and Didak, we dominated in close all day. Struggled with our spread early (understandable when missing our two best in Thomas and Wellingham) but got on top as the day went on.
Fasolo... this kid has some serious skills, and the confidence to go with them. If Didak does not get back into form before the finals, Fas is our replacement. He may even edge someone like Blair or Beams out anyway. I'd have him ahead of both purely as a forward. Beams scares me as a forward, especially in a close game (missed a couple of sitters again today). Can't we find a spot for him in the middle or down back? Please?
Great game from Krak also, as well as Swan, Pendles and Leon of course.

Great summation An Inkling, although I'm not quite as fearful of Beams as you are!AN_Inkling wrote:A super win. Really can't be seen any other way. One poor quarter, but you have to take the match as a whole, and it was a super win.
