As an aside, Snoop Dog highly values your bloke Karpany as highly skilled & talented player, great skill set & doing very well this year. The issue being he's slightly built despite playing in the SANFL.

Hopefully, if he's not picked up we can rookie him later.

I'd like Scharenberg, Bontempelli, Lennon & Aish.

Cameron McCarthy is another one being touted highly - from WA.

http://boundforglorynews.com/2013-draft ... -mccarthy/

Above link has him at 195cm

While the AFL website has him at 193cm.

Do not waste a top 10 pick on a midget.

6. Lennon.
10. Bontempelli.

Would love Billy Hartung but he's just a bit short, 177 cm and left foot not that good. Can see him getting corralled a lot. He's bloody quick though.

Let's not take our aversion to smalls to ridiculous lengths. Would we pass on Cotchin? In reality the number of 188cm plus mids in the league is quite small, and the number of quality ones even smaller, this is not a need you draft for.

I'd also tend to preferring us to pick at least one taller mid, but it shouldn't prevent us from picking a better player. The midget talk is a little overblown anyway. In terms of mids we have Thomas and Kennedy. Blair is more a forward and possibly a fringe player now. We also have one of the few genuine 190cm mids in Pendles and Harry on a wing. Up forward we have Dwyer (fringe, and likely even depth player now) and Elliott along with Blair. As a Rookie we have Martin who may never get another game. That's the full midget list.

What we actually need is elilte runners. Not talls (and the two don't often go together). The risk with most of the taller types is that they are hybrid players, not specialists. Will they ever become elite in any one position? It's hard to tell. I wouldn't mind picking one of them, but at 6 I'd probably prefer a definite genuine midfielder.
Actually we've got a number of elite runners already but the problem is they're nearly all one-paced or plodders (ie: Sidebottom, Clarke, Lynch, Cloke etc) &/or poor users of the footy so I'd say what we actually need is elite runners who are quick, good decision makers, and can execute with precision. Not too much to ask for

I do agree, size shouldn't rule players out of consideration but if the club is considering a couple of guys at any of their picks who rate similarly, opt for the taller player.

I'd be amazed if Aish is still around at Pick 6, but if he is we will snap him up. I've heard Hine say that we will take the best available, but suspect he'll be looking at speedy, big-bodied types who can play centre.
My guess: 6. Bontempelli 10. Kolodjashnij
After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!
Collingwood rules the world again and Mick Malthouse fulfils his destiny with the twenty ten premiership and can you hear the people sing!

If we take Lennon, most likely Kolodjashnij, Freeman and Taylor will all be gone by 10. Bontempelli could be interesting but he'll also most likely be gone too by then. I think we'll be left with a choice out of Crouch or Acres, although one of either Bontempelli or McCarthy should still be available.
At this stage it would seem the following are the most likely top 10 to join Boyd at pick 1.

In no particular order Aish, Freeman, Bontempelli, Lennon, Kolodjashnij, Billings, McDonald (Nth pick 8), Kelly and Scharenberg.

I'd settle for any two of those.

Salem, Taylor, Crouch, McCarthy, Sheed and Acres would be next in line.

Good morning Mr Swoop 42. Lennon is my first priority then one of Scharenberg, Bontempelli, Kolodjashnij or Acres- McCarthy or Acres as a roughie...

Dislike the bit where McCarthy is technically a poor kick and needs confidence like the bit about strong marking.

Does your math holdup given North take McDonald at 8?
Only 2 live picks between our picks 6 and 10 - 7 & 9

Assuming Boyd, Aish, Scharenberg, Billings, Kelly are your top 5
Lennon in your example at 6
7 say KK
8 McDonald
9 say Freeman
10 Taylor and Bontempelli et alia must still be available

If they believe they can mould Karnezis at ~190 into a mid and Hine is picking best available then I imagine our selections will be 2 x utility/mids, maybe one around 188-191 (Bontempelli, Lennon, Scharenberg, KK) and one shorter type (Aish, Taylor, Freeman).

McCarthy is not a top 10 player, just the best available key forward after Boyd. Pick up Moore next season and better key position options in next year's draft from what I have read.
One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership

A quick, skillful mid (Aish or Freeman) and a tall-ish, quick, skillful flanker (Bonty, Lennon) will do very nicely.

Really looking forward to draft day.

Do you think Aish will still be available at 10? He could be the Grundy of this draft and slide out. Apparently there might be ? Over his shoulder. I reckon we'll swoop on him at 6.

I think clubs will be reluctant to pick kids outside their home state, so that rules out both SA clubs who don't have picks til 20's.

I think we need a genuine wingman and Aish fits the bill.
