He would slot in perfectly and the cost is the sticking point. If the Dawks pay as reported $300k of his contract and we give a 2nd round pick I think that is a reasonable deal. He comes in that's another mid the opposition has to cover.
3rd round pick. As someone else said the Hawks are in a buyers market ,.. they’re the ones that need to dump salary. So screw em!

So hypothetically we trade Grundy and $300k for high draft pick.
Bring in McStay for $600k and Mitchell for $400k with the Hawks covering $300k

Seems like a win for us.

I can't see how you can have Adams and Mitchell in the same team.

You seem to be optimistic about Adams overcoming his soft tissue injury problems; many of us aren't.

Plenty of spots in the 22, and rotating off the bench.
McFly will make this work.

I agree 100% about Adams- hard to imagine his soft-tissue stuff will get any better as he gets older- Mitchell is an elite clearance player- he will be a very good get if we can make a suitable trade with the Hawks...

Here's one or two from left field:

Riley Collier-Dawkins 189cms and 89kgs from Tigers (if delisted) turns 23 in Feb 2023.

Brayden Sier 191cms and 88kgs turns 25 in December (random rookie listing??)- inside bull back up... might this former Pie fly with Fly???

Nothing would surprise me in the new era of Magpie resurgence as a fighting force in the AFL scene..
Firm in the belief that number 17 flag is only months away...

Mitchell has one year to run on his contract. If Mitchell crossed to us, would Hawthorn contribute to his salary beyond one year? If not, wouldn't we be setting ourselves up for a future salary cap dump?

My other concern is whether Mitchell would fit into our style of play. He accumulates lots of possessions but many of them are backwards and sideways.

Talking to some Hawks supporters and while they think he should be traded, they’re worried he’ll make us stronger and a flag contender. Sign him up!

The reality is that we were never going to win the Grand Final without Adams. If he is injured again, our ability to win next year would be very compromised.

Is Mitchell anything like Adams, though?

I think he fits our game plan perfectly -
Is either elite or above average in Pressure, Tackles, clearances, score involvements. He wins the ball on the inside and pressures when the opposition has it.
