I think my reply deserved better than that, but suit yourself.stui magpie wrote:So basically, the ideal you were arguing for, won't work practically.
No surprise there but thanks for the effort

You should see me with the washing liquid. I realised ages ago that it was way too messy to use the supplied measuring cup, so now I just chuck a random amount in and hope for the best.

Chinese ivory carvings claiming that ivory carvings prolongs the life of the elephant in a spiritual sense. Like a mink coat prolongs the life of the minks. the mind boggles but still we feed these people and give them steel to fuel the rising middle class, which increases the demand for ivory in China.

What kind of parents are raising this generation?
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-04-09/q ... rs/8428872
Why is a 14 year old having a big night out?
The little on remand for stabbing the guy at the servo, surely they should be tried as adults, and if not, try the parents too, someone is responsible for their behaviour.

I understand Jo but it is too complicated for words. The parents, making a big assumption that both are together, have probably been told they are out of line. Give the little prick a tent and a blanket and tell him to eff off. No one to pay for anything. He will freeze in Canberra or toe the line. Up to him.

And sometimes it's the last resort that actually works.David wrote:^ That logic has seen too many wayward/troubled teenagers go homeless, get sexually abused and/or become drug addicts. Sometimes so-called tough love just makes things worse.
Depends on the situation.
In this case a 14 yr old girl stabs family after a big night out (??) because she wasn't allowed to have ice cream and pasta for breakfast and also breached an AVO and bail conditions.
That she was on bail and some family had an AVO against her should be concerning from the start, it doesn't appear as though it was an isolated incident.
Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

Not saying the answer is indulgence! Perhaps some sort of diversion program or even institutionalisation is required. Just responding to RR's suggestion which, I feel, far too many parents actually choose in situations like this.
