I've got some Jacques Senaux Absinthe. 4 bottles of different colour, the black is 80%, the Blue is 78%

makes some serious shots.

Anyone who'd drink absinthe in shot form deserves zero sympathy. :-p

having done a few sessions on the stuff, whatever is in it can mess with your head far worse that the alcohol does.

I wish i'd recorded my cousin trying to climb a tree in the park after my daughter did him shots of the blue, looked like an unco panda.

Yeah, you have to wonder. I'm quite partial to an evil Italian digestive called Fernet Branca. It's an acquired taste but I always wake up feeling somehow wired the next morning, after drinking even a small quantity of it. Absinthe doesn't hit me like that but my absinthe is only around 100 proof/50% ABV. Anything at 80% ABV is going to leave you liable to facial numbness pretty quickly, I guess, and who knows what some of those herbs, especially wormwood, really do.

I only ever drink absinthe in water, about 20% absinthe to water and with sugar added. In that mixture it is one of the better things in life. Heaven in a louche green cloud.

I've done the traditional louche thing, I don't mind it but a modern twist is just to use Schweppes lemonade and ice. very tasty on a hot day, no stuffing around and the bubbles add to it.

A variation is to add a shot of Absinthe to a glass of Champagne. Also known as "Death in the afternoon", a cocktail invented by Ernest Hemingway.

I've not tried the lemonade and ice, but I'd imagine it'd be pretty good as it is basically absinthe, sugar and water. I'll have a go.

I have tried death in the afternoon, which didn't really do it for me as it didn't quite do justice to the absinthe or the champagne. With a sugar cub and the absinthe used as a bitters, though, it'd probably be excellent.

The very best use of absinthe, for me, is in a Sazerac. Absinthe rinse in the glass, sugar syrup, peychaud's bitters and rye whiskey. Twist of orange, and it's a drink to die for.

Incredible, isn't it ? For that kind of torturous violence, I'd imagine you would get many years in prison. Then there is the way his ice-taking is used to suggest that it was not really his fault - the drugs made him do it, you see. How can he be responsible for crimes committed under the influence of a drug he chose to take ? So something that should itself incur a sentence - taking one of the worst class A drugs possible - becomes grounds for mitigation. That's our "war on drugs" for you.

Yeah, much as it seems very lenient I'd be interested in seeing more of the evidence and what considerations the judge took into account.

I'd assume that the drug addiction and that the behaviour was out of character would count for something, not that I'm condoning what he did in any way.

I'm generally a bleeding heart but come on 28 charges and burning someones finger off deserves much more than 6 months.

Yeah, I can actually. Couple of years ago I blew a hole in my right index finger with my water jet, [industrial drain cleaner]. Doctors saved my finger after 2 weeks in hospital, 5 operations. I had actually asked them to amputate because of the pain even with pain relief etc. Having said that. Murphy got off lightly, 18 months sounds more appropriate for that offence alone.

Oh my god. I'm never touching the Karcher again. Ouch.
Just the thought of the torch coming at you should be 6 months, doing the deed far more. Ok get him help for his addiction in jail, but no one made him take it, and he should, in my opinion, have to face up to it as if he wasn't totalled.
