22 match ban, with 12 suspended so he'll miss 10 games and won't be available for selection until the first week of the finals at the earliest.

He's also been fined $20,000.

It turns out that he bet on 3 separate games. This wasn't a one-off. On a couple of occasions he got a friend to put the bet on. On another occasion he did it himself. Did he not know you weren't allowed to do this? Did he forget?

The talk about this being an anti-Collingwood thing is rubbish. Saying "he made a mistake", is also rubbish. 3 mistakes?

I think that the penalty is harsh but in the circumstances of him having placed 3 bets, it makes sense. Stevo's a great player but this was a dreadful error of judgment. His teammates, coaches, club and supporters are entitled to be angry with him.

Where the hell does this bloody curse that has inflicted the club for more than 50 years come from????

Looking at all the other precedents the penalty seems way OTT.

Makes sense that the punishment was more severe than Heath Shaw's in 2011.

I'm just shaking my head at how a player can get himself involved in this mess when the AFL and the clubs drum it into players heads that they're prohibited from betting on football games.

Yep. But before the penalty was announced, and they said that he'd placed multi-bets on 3 Collingwood games, I thought 'sh*t, they're going to throw the book at him'. But 22 weeks is over the top considering the bets totalled $36, and he self-reported

The 3 bets totalled $36? Hahahahaha. Man. This just gets better and better.

I get it that he’s young.

I get it that everyone makes mistakes.

I get it that he’ll learn his lesson.

But I also get it that he’s an idiot.

Words came from Jordan De Goey after his mistake in 2018

“I need to regain the trust of my team mates”

Any time a player commits off field indiscretion he not only jeopardise himself but the guy’s around him working and trying to toe the line for team success

He is no different than any player in any club in that respect

This is a massive massive penalty but if it’s 3 bets then it adds up.
Plain stupid on his behalf.
My question is; will the AFL integrity unit look at the betting sponsorships as a double standard and sending a terrible message?

Typical AFL leak (to Jake Niall). Can't this organisation keep their friggin mouths shut till the presser? More leaks than a sieve.

This is absolutely and totally ludicrous. It's simply taking a high profile player from the biggest club in the AFL and using them to make an example to the rest of the competition. The AFL are total ar**holes and have lost me forever!!

Jaidyn would be completely devastated.

I was optimistic after that leak - that it would be 10 weeks, reduced to about 4 - suffice to say I was gobsmacked when I heard the 22.

No chance. Too much money involved. It’s no different to jockeys betting on races.
