The media had already released how much the Dockers offered weeks ago, in fact it was The Footy Show that had mentioned the figure.

So I doubt it came as a surprise to anyone.

I don't really care what is said in the media, there are more important things to worry about then whether or not Cloke signs, and how much some club's offering.

Well said.
I'd rather have a year or two's 'short term pain for long term gain' if you know what I mean.

Oh yeh, and have Beams, Goldsack & Wello stitched up for at least the next three years, plus Reid if his body stands up.

Open letter to Travis Cloke-

I think with Bucks coming out this week the whole Cloke deal is starting to be a bit sniffy.

I am not a fan of Davids handling of his sons careers. The danger now is the backlash. Supporters don't want to see other talented players being sacrificed because Cloke wants to protect his future. Good luck to him; get what you can, but be really careful you don't piss off your team mates, as those dollar tied KPI's might not be overly achievable if you don't receive the ball. If your pockets are over loaded with cash too, then standing side bye side might be a little hard to balance.

Sometimes in life it's not necessarily about the quick dollar wins. I've been offered jobs in life that have meant more money but when I looked at the other benefits, I realised the cash isn't necessarily what life is all about.

Travis, you're not a gifted orator who can teach politics when you finish, however as a one team premiership player, your career choices are many post football. You might think life is all about the $$ but I am here to tell you, it just isn't. Just spend some time with some past players who switched teams and see what they think too. They will tell you Collingwood is where you should commit too.

Your father might be telling you otherwise, but how cool would it be to tell your grandchildren, when they put you in the AFL Hall fo Fame, that your 5 premierships with the Pies were the hi-light of your career. Listenning to that shocking voice of Ross Lyons for the next 5 years may just send you to the looney bin!

He may be more likely to be listening the voice of Malthouse at Carlton.

While I agree in part, the fact that us mere mortals who cannot dream of such a wage are content to earn our yearly pay knowing that we can do so for 50 years.
An athletes time is short and there is always the danger of the career finishing with a split second injury.
Don't blame anyone for maximizing their return on talent. But prefer a decision was made quickly instead of taking a full year.

Speak for yourself, we know plenty of Nicksters who are on more than Cloke is going for......lol......

Yeah I'm sure there are a few.
But the point that a footballers earning window reads small compared to other careers remains.

This is getting hilarious now, bad, bad Travis accepting a request to do an interview on a TV show, how dare he!

Notice how the vocal minority hates any Collingwood person who does a Footy Show interview, if he did the same interview on everyones favourite show on the ABC that 10 people watch, he wouldnt receive as much hate I am sure...

But funny how the handful of nicksters who dislike him anyway think anywhere near enough to be heard of the 70,000 members we have would start hating him on the field, absolute gold

Besides its not like he attacked someone with a machete or something...

We have to sign him up,it's that simple. Our premiership window would be shut and bolted for a number of years if he left.Just imagine the forward line without him-it would have no structure at all.We can't build our forward line around Dawes, and we certainly couldn't depend on some 18 year old we might get in the draft, because kids like that take years to develop. So it has to be Cloke if we want to remain a premiership contender for the next few years.

And by the way,i didn't see anything in his performance on the Footy show last night that really troubled me.Just looking at his body language and by the way he spoke,he gave no indication to me that's he's seriously thinking of leaving.

Gawd, it's always the same over-emotional types on Nick's who panic, exaggerate and then turn on the player concerned whenever things get slightly testing. The maths may not in the end grant us the Edenic perfection of every signature, but the constant overreacting to any and every difficulty the club faces requires a good look in the mirror.

Grow up!

What worrys me is that basically he doesnt care about team mates,as he says, its his life and he needs to look after his future.
So another words he aint taking any pay cuts,to save a team mates career.
Geelong booted ablett off, knowing that it would survive bartel, selwood, knowing g ablett wont see any success at gc,most geelong fans down here reckon he will be back,in his prime still to join bartel, selwood, and they re have a crack at a flag.
I hope we wdont get rid of travis in that way,and i hope he dont walk for the $.
I cant see us doing much with dawes and paine foward,or not in the next year or so,dawes is so out of form, that he is survived by his team mates, and the fact he is the next best thing to jolly, because cam wood, just aint rising yet.
Jackson paine will be massive, but will take time,as fowards do.
If trav goes, the foward line will have to have a complete makeover,

I still hear whispers that if ratten dont make it top 4,they will look elsewhere, and malthouse is in mind,i still hear malthouse stating at the g,when we were premiers,ed there still my boys, and i think trav would be perfectly on a malthouse/blues wish list.
Ive stated many times before, you cant win games week in week out with small fowards, betts gartlett, wont do it every week, and wont win them a flag, they need a power foward, waite, well aint worth the waite.

Trav needs to talk to past players, but then theres past players that have had premeirship glory with other clubs, but wont ever step foot in the magpies front door.

Players like nick davis, mal micheal who arsed the club and walked.
Paul williams etc.
But then players who regret it like chris tarrant, mick mcguane (for the rest of his life has to live with the fact he was a blue for one year, but did chin one of there bitches).

Im sure theres a handfull or more of players that requested trades that didnt do there careers to good aswell.

but trav,if its premiership success you want,or desire, fremantle aint anywhere near what we are,nor is carlton,

I wouldnt be to greedy, but if you did come out and kicked a bag of 10,or even 7,sure start bartering then, but bags of 2 or even 3 sparringly, doesnt warrant 1 million over time.

Show us the goals, maybe then,WE WILL SHOW YOU THE MONEY

Yeah

Oh goodness! Premiership Glory does not pay the bills when you leave football and have other professional skills. What part of that don't some of you clowns get!

Check the lines from Gerry Cooper in the movie the Club about loyalty. Great stuff and sums up modern footy.

Cloke is a great champion and key to our success. I stand by him.

Its interesting that this occurs time after time with virtually none of the doom and gloom that is predicted actually turning out that way.
Its as if someone starts it off and others feel they don't want to be left out and just pile on board with even greater "end of the world" predictions.

There's actually a name for it. Its called "mobbing"

The one benefit I get out of it is the comedic value.

I'm not sure what you mean by this? Are you saying its ok for him to go after money because premierships don't exactly mean coin in the bank or? On a personal level I would play for collingwood on 100k a year if it meant winning a premiership with them, nothing would mean more to me then that, and you have that for the rest of your life. Imagine winning two or three, now that is something you can be proud of forever, pendles and co know that, wish this muppet would. Whats the big difference between 600k - 1mil honestly, your still living pretty bloody good
