Latest news:

From Herald Sun: Israel has just bombed one of the oldest churches in the world - a Christian church built in 425 AD, killing 18 people. Israel does not differentiate between Christian and Muslim Palestinians in its ongoing slaughter in Gaza.
Before the war, the Christian communities also felt the restrictions of the Israel/Egypt blockade on Gaza. They were unable to leave the walled-off enclave, described as the world’s biggest open-air prison.

Despite their Patriarchy sending a message to the IDF they had sought refuge there, it didn’t stop an attack on the Church of Saint Porphyrius.

The families stuck in the church said they “expect” a safe place to live and raise their children with dignity and respect.

“We want the world to know the crimes that Israel is doing to the Palestinian people either attacking civilians or using prohibited weapons against us …

“We ask the world to intervene and stop the fight now.”

What more proof that this genocide has nothing to do with "Islam vs the Jews"?? It is classic text book ethnic cleansing.

From Al-Jazeera:Israeli army continues ‘pounding’ southern Gaza

About 31 Palestinians have been killed in separate strikes that took place at the Nuseirat refugee camp and another refugee camp. Two journalists are among the victims.

So, after telling the Palestinians in Northern Gaza to relocate to the south to avoid death, Israel now starts to bombard southern Gaza.

Does anyone else see a resemblance to Hitler?

Over 12000 dead now in Gaza, at least 40% are children.
Deaths due to Hamas incursion: 1200.
10 to 1 ratio, yet supposedly this is about "self-defence" ???

It just goes to show that anti-Semitism emanates from within the capitalist class fundamentally. Elon Musk no doubt is anti-Semitic, and so are many capitalist politicians who currently proclaim that Israel "has the right to defend itself": ex Michael Jeffries, current Speaker of the House of Representatives, is a christian fascist who is a "young earth creationist". He believes that the earth was created 60000 years ago, and that before Jesus Christ returns to earth, all the Jews must be "in-gathered" to the Holy Land, and be embroiled in an "apocalyptic war", in which - according to some creationist theories - they will be annihilated. This insane anti-Semite is currently a fervent defender of the Israeli government and its genocidal policies, because it is consistent with his religious phantasmagoria of assembling all the Jews in Isreal for the ultimate war.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, member of the US Congress for Georgia, is a follower of the “Replacement Theory.” This fascist doctrine, argues that politicians or activists who defend immigrants are part of a Jewish-communist plot to “replace” White Christians with “inferior stock” from Africa, South America and Asia.

Biden collaborates on a daily basis with his "Republican colleagues", clearly not seeing their virulent anti-semitism as an obstacle.
Biden is also spending billions of US government expenditure arming anti=semitic Neo-Nazis in Ukraine.

It is time to locate where the primal source of anti-Semitism lies. It lies within the capitalist elites in every countery. Right now, they are piously proclaiming "Israel's transcendent right to defend itself" only because this fits in with their geopolitical agendas.
In reality, they could not care less about the Isreali population, and if it suited their interests, would allow them to be massacred as well.
You say Capitalist like there is something else, but the spirit of Capitalism, ie buying and selling, dominating and manipulating people, services, goods, animals, plants, soil and water is inherent in every people and culture, you can call it barter or tithing or fairy dust if you like but make no mistake, that's us, that's who we are, the best killers and hoarders of resources on the planet.

and ps: stop trying to paint Dark Brandon with the GOP brush, it's embarrassing, you sound like a Murdoch publication.

I said I would not engage with Slangman any further, and I won't address anything else in what he posted above - but I could not resist this final farewell to him.
I doubt that Slangman has even heard of Friedrich Engels, Karl Marx's best friend and closest collaborator. Engels made an enormous contribution to the development of Marx's theories of socialism and philosophy (dialectical materialism). The amazing thing for Slangman to consider is that Friedrich Engels was a business owner, owning a profitable factory with several employees!! Yes, so it is that from within capitalism grows socialism itself. Dialectics 101.

^Great cartoons David. The guy in the orange Tshirt making the ''intelligent'' comments reminds me of the journalist at Francesca Albanese's media conference who thought he could undermine her accusations of genocide against the israeli government with such a ridiculous question that she felt compelled to say to him: "Can you really keep a straight face when you ask me this question?"
The statement was directed at you and not to Engles.
Not sure why you are referring to someone 200 years ago to deflect answering a simple question about yourself.

Labor politicians condemn the strikes by school students in opposition to the genocide in Gaza.
https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2023/1 ... j-n25.html

Capitalist media journalists interviewing kids and trying to twist their comments to paint them as "sympathisers of terrorism" because they are taking 2 hours out of school to express their outrage at the actions of the Isreali government. Such is the terror of the ruling elite and its lackeys in the official media. They are very very frightened that the movement of opposition against the IDF and Netahanyu regime's calculated actions of genocide will provoke a mass movement against them. They are also terrified that this mass movement will hold them to account for complicity in war crimes.

Yep. There is mounting evidence that the Natanyahu government was fully aware of the possibillty of an impending attack.

1) In the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz it is reported that letters from Israel Military Intelligence were communicated to Netanyanhu in March and July warning him that the sociopolitical crisis within Israel was encouraging Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas to risk action against Israel.

2) On October 9, an Egyptian intelligence official told Associated Press that Cairo had repeatedly warned the Isreali authorities that "something big" was being prepared in Gaza. “We have warned them an explosion of the situation is coming, and very soon, and it would be big. But they underestimated such warnings" he said.

3) Israeli soldiers themselves raised the alarm. At least two female soldiers described how they had raised concerns for weeks before October 7 about suspicious activity along the Gaza border. Not only were their reports dismissed, but they were threatened with court martial. “We were told that if we continue to harass on this issue, you will stand trial.” An officer told them, “Hamas are just a bunch of punks, they won’t do anything.”

This has nothing to do with sexism in the IDF. It is far more sinister than that. It represents the deliberate suppression of information.

The best comparison is that October 7, 2023 for Israel is the equivalent of Sep 11 2001 for the US.
Long prepared plans were activated when the pretext conveniently arose.

How could one of the most well resourced agencies in the World let this happen?

Israels main method of containment is keep the Palestinians on the Gaza strip through a low tech 65km concrete wall and two fences coupled with high a high tech defence system.

But containment for the Palestinians didn't mean the Israelis stopped encroaching on Palestinian territory.
West Bank expansion ultimately irritated Hamas.
International law said expansion into West Bank was illegal.

Enter Itamar Ben-Gvir who's politics were so extreme he was excluded from Israeli military service. He was part of the original Kach movement which was barred from participating in elections as they incited racism.
He found himself in court so often a Judge suggested he become a lawyer.
This nut job became leader of the political party Otzma Yehudit, and was subsequently elected to Parliament in 2021 - all while promoting shooting Palestinians.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an effort to get this parties support, appointed Ben-Gvir the Minister of National Security!!
That's like putting Pauline Hanson in charge of Immigration.

Days after he took office as national security minister, a position that gave a religious hardliner significant powers over the police, Ben Gaveer provoked Palestinians when he visited Jerusalem’s sacred al-Aqsa mosque compound.
That's akin to Pauline Hanson climbing onto Uluru, ignoring the sensitivities of such and a clear act of provocation.
Now if you're unclear why hung parliaments can be dangerous, when right wing nutters get a seat at the table and start earning concessions, well don't be surprised when the shit hits the fan.

Even the Israeli opposition leader, Yair Lapid, had opposed the visit and predicted it would lead to bloodshed.
Jordan, Egypt, Turkey and Arab leaders condemned the move as a blatant act of provocation.

Ben-Gvir has since visited al-Aqsa numerous times since entering parliament in April 2021, but his presence there as a senior minister carries far greater weight. A controversial visit in 2000 by the then opposition leader, Ariel Sharon, was one of the main triggers for the second Palestinian intifada, or uprising, which lasted until 2005.

In the interim, Israel kept ramping up occupation and demolishing homes.
Ben-Gvir acticely encouraged Israelis to carry weapons.

So it's perhaps not a stretch to suggest Head of the Border police Ben-Gvir, ignored warnings of a military build-up and lull Israelis into a false sense of security, paving the way for Palestinian retaliation to ongoing provocation. Netanyahu has a clear agenda.
Things will get worse, any ceasefire will soon reignite while these right wing nut jobs are left to do the ruling parties dirty work.

What a shit show.

Interesting. The first point that grabbed me was that it was released via Wikileaks. No wonder cloaked intelligence organisations were terrified of what the releases were going to uncover. This is an example.

The other was our old red tooth and claw mate Itamar Ben-Gvir, in his position as National Security Minister, was banging the table to prepare his police for “Operation Defensive Shield 2.”

While I understand this conflict is more layered that what I might be able to objectively comprehend / form a view on, one way or the other, I just can't imagine the history books are going to reflect kindly on Netanyahu if the facts come to the surface.
It appears there's one objective that hasn't shifted, the removal of the Arabs from Israel and retaining the blockades to deny Palestinians a port, and the economic benefits that might come with it.

FWIW, I'm very much neutral on this whole matter, I'm a keen student of history first and foremost, hence wating to obtain some understanding of this conflict.
