that was heartbreaking to watch, i saw that on telly. makes me so mad, i donated more than once, and then you find they are keeping funds for "a rainy day". disgusting. those poor people.
I didnt know it but one of the guys in a photography group im in lives in a hard lockdown tower/apartment somewhere, he posted this today. said hes fine, not stressed and practising photshop, he got these groceries today, and they are not out of date, and sausage rolls would be great please, he has a microwave!
meanwhile my sister text me while on a break, shes been there since last night with a break on a bunk at the cop shop. apparently its pretty chaotic, and they have had to stop a few situation that could have gone very bad.

I see a few different ways to look at this and none of them would think they're getting a very good deal.
1. David's gripe is that he seems to see this action as an attack on a particular "class" of people. The Poor, refugees, etc lets pick on them because we can. ....(...not....).
2. The lockdown is completely justified by the numbers in the towers. You can't compare people sharing communal facilities with people going into their own yards
3. The lockdown was implemented really badly. It was rushed and poorly communicated and managed. People found out they were going to be locked down, went to go buy groceries and found the Police already there enforcing lockdown. Someone panicked.
4. Many of the residents can afford to live elsewhere, in private housing but they choose to remain for a combination of factors including it's dirt cheap, great location, million $ views and a community feel with many other people of similar background. They aren't used to being in the flat 24/7, because they aren't normally. They're at work, or in the park, or socialising with others or somewhere else,
So basically, you have a lot of people, many from non-English speaking backgrounds for whom the Police are a symbol of oppression not help, suddenly, with zero notice, being told they're confined to their flat with hundreds of (completely confused) Police there to enforce it. Can't buy groceries, dispose of rubbish (including dirty nappies) but it's OK cos we'll give them some money, some long life food that's past it's best before date and drop some cold sausage rolls outside their front door at 2am.
It's not a good deal, it's a shit deal. But that has everything to do with how it was implemented and nothing to do with whether it was justified or not, which it clearly was.
There was no choice in how quickly it was closed down: better to have a few noses out of joint than spread it more quickly. Goodness me, how else can people complain to Sky News and 3AW?

There have been lots of donations, free food from lots of groups including the Sikh Community, Muslim support groups and individuals amongst others. It is catch up.
Mental health services are in place
Methadone providers are assisting
Health services are involved
It will take a few days to get ontop of the distribution and communications
Not sure where the ICE dealers will go though?
It is not desirable but it's 100% necessary.

Hello lockdown my old friend, we're going to have you here again.
Victoria records 191 cases in a day
News just in from The Age's state political editor Noel Towell: Victoria is set to report 191 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, the highest number of diagnoses in the state since the start of the pandemic.
It comes after the state recorded its previous highest daily figure of 127 cases yesterday.
The total number of cases recorded in the state is now at 2824.
Majority of the cases are local transmission, so the only sensible thing to do is to wind right back to everything shut down, everyone STF at home.
That could do some serious damage to small businesses though, particularly retail and hospitality, many of whom only just scraped through the last lockdown period.
Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.
