Both Treloar and Stevo have had good but not great seasons.
We can move on and enjoy our young guns development from now on.
As far as Im concerned AT and JS are in the past and we had to do what we had to do.
There was probably truth on both sides in that trade period we suffered last year and alot stories of AT and JS that not many know about.

They selected him for a Preliminary final, so in Bevridge's eyes, he is that good.Pies4shaw wrote:I think they'll be back to renegotiate the deal - they'll be wanting us to pay his entire salary and then give them enough additional salary-relief that they can recruit an actual footballer to play in his spot.
I should add that it's much less frustrating paying for him not to touch the ball in a different team's jumper than watching him do that in our colours.

Annoying opposition supporters since 1967.
^ Everyone needs their preliminary final team to contain that 2 kick (one out of bounds on the full) line-breaking gut-runner who never seems to be able to run at the same speed as the opposition ruckman when the ball is in an opponent's hands. It makes for good team balance - you can't win a premiership without a spud or two in your midfield.
Good call.Pies2016 wrote:Ok, here’s another name I just came across as an unrestricted free agent. Trent Dumont at age 26 and 187cm
He’s probably closest to a Levi Greenwood type. Very hard at it and a no frills footballer. He’s been around a while, plays in Kangas best 22 when fit and was once part of their leadership group.
Considering there’s no trade involved, I would hope the club would at least ask the question. We do need some tough nuts over the ball, so I would anticipate him playing in the ones most weeks.
A Dumont or Dunstan style hard nut would greatly benefit the kids during our rebuild.

Played 1 game this season with a debilitating back injury, so he should be cheaper than when we were trying to get him last season - on the other hand, Melbourne has expressed interest, presumably because they see him as a possible cheap "in emergency, break glass" replacement for Weideman when they delist him.
He's actually only played in one of Hawthorn's last 26 games.

You dont understand - we have senior players that allows for getting games into the kids. You recruit all these unproven players who would want more than a min contract and you're going to be playing them.Dave The Man wrote:Macrae has said he does not want to over do it with Playing the Kids and how Many Kids at 1 timeMJ23 wrote:Oh shit, Id be gutted if we got all of them - Other than Krueger whos a KP we need maybe ONE of them MAX. they would all fill gaps on the list. Add in Nick Daicos, Youseph Dib and the next best available from the draft, would be very happy. We still have Johnson and Begg as two mid year presents yet to be opened as well.
My preference is Lipinski - was at a game at Blacktown where he killed the giants reserves playing in the middle.
Daicos and Dibb - them out of the draft and Id be rapt.
Map out a team and include three of these guys then tell me how many spots you have for 2nd year players.
Despite that, I reckon they are list cloggers. Younger kids have gone past them in their own teams.

Whatever you think of Treloar his absence this year has created a giant hole in our midfield which they tried to fill with Sier, who for whatever reason didn't work out. MaCrae is the obvious replacement for Treloar and may in fact go past him in the next few years. However MaCrae will need help in the middle until he fills out. You can't just play guys like MaCrae, McInnes, Nick Daicos and Rantall out of the middle all at once next year. They need help from Pendlebury, Sidebottom, De Goey and Adams and at least one other established mid. Harvey brought Crisp into the middle to help out, but that was robbing Peter to play Paul. So in a nutshell we need to find a mature age mid outside our list to fill the hole. We don't want fringe players from other clubs who are about to be delisted. The middle of the ground is the most critical position to play and fringe players don't cut it. Lipinski comes up as an ideal candidate who fits our needs. He can play from day one. He's the right size and age and impresses as someone who has a lot upside to his game. I think we should do our best to get him.

We have serious holes in our list, and our senior players clearly need support.
Are you suggesting we just play Begg, McMahon, Ginny, Beau and Henry up forward..
Reef, Daicos, Macrae, Poulter and Bianco through the guts…
Along with Rusco, Murphy, Kelly, and Keane down back…
And pray that Checkers, Pendles, Adam’s, Sidey, Howe and the Rough pick up the slack without further derailing their careers?
Here’s hoping they won’t be demoralised, traumatised and snapped in half by hard bodied, professionals with proven track records and years of gruelling pre-seasons under their belts.

Good question. I think we need to bite the bullet and settle on a key forward replacement for Cameron, who is essentially a ruckman who can play forward. And a key tall defender who can cover for either Roughead or Moore. Madgen, Howe, Maynard and Murphy don't cut it as key defenders to me. Whoever we choose should be based on preseason performance and then they need to be given a block of games to settle into the position. The worse thing I reckon you can do to somebody is destroy their confidence by playing them in their debut and dropping them, then bring them back for one game and then drop them again. This in my opinion was a terrible habit Nathan Buckley got into with players. Malthouse used to always play new players in blocks of games. Also Malthouse never had a pecking order like Buckley based on age and experience. You were either good enough to play or not good enough to play. Hope this all changes with McRae.5:11pm wrote:We have serious holes in our list, and our senior players clearly need support.

A forward replacement for Cameron in my mind should be someone like McMahon. He has all the credentials to play CHF. They should play him there from the first game next year.
An ideal key defender we should be playing from next year is Keane. They should be playing him as a third tall defender behind Moore and Roughead. Stick to using Howe, Madgen, Maynard and Murphy as medium defenders.
