He was older with full gray hair, full police suit with tie. I swam past him at a distance of about 40 metres, definitely wasn't a local cop, probably someone more senior bought in to do the media interviews

Certainly charges up to and including arson, manslaughter, reckless conduct endangering life etc.

What about the group of protesters who disrupted planned burns in East Gippsland in September?

https://www.trfm.com.au/articles/planned-burns-halted/
Protestors at two planned burns in the east of the region have put themselves and the broader community at risk as they tried to disrupt planned burning operations.

Gippsland’s Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Beth Roberts said: “Forest Fire Management Victoria crews were planning to ignite burns at Baines Road Mossiface and Nelsons Road Nowa Nowa on Wednesday September 4.
Apparently, due to the actions of the protesters and after "community consultation" only 9 hectares of the planned 370 was burned.

Bet they're feeling pretty happy with themselves right now.

I found the reference on Twitter, googled the ABC Gippsland link myself, found the piece, and when you click on it, it's been removed. I did what I could to verify it, you post links to the openly biased Guardian and call it news, prove it wrong. No one in the Twitterverse who's called bullshit has been able to find a source to refute it.

My personal thought is that the ABC Gippsland facebook page removed the post not to airbrush history, but to protect the protesters from recrimination. The dumb phuks would be feeling pretty ordinary right now.

Here's the removed post https://www.facebook.com/ABCGippsland/p ... 923139825/

^ No denial whatsoever: don’t think I refuted the story. Just coming from an extremist christian conservative group whose fact checking is questionable was being questioned.

I’m sure they’re 100% reliable for being anti gay, creationism and bombing family planning clinics.

Well firstly, you could test his DNA for Denisovan ancestry. Indigenous Australians and Papua New Guineans are the only peoples who's DNA contain this.

As a side note, the whole out of Africa timeline and how current humans evolved is all up in the air at the moment, but it seems likely that while Neanderthals migrated to Europe Denisovans moved toward Australia likely arriving concurrently ot thereabouts with the first Aboriginals.

Second point though is that DNA really doesn't shape how you identify. Most Aboriginals would have a significant portion of European DNA, if they chose to identify with their Aboriginal culture that's fine, even if it's only a minority piece. But they should really have some.

I met a white bloke ages ago up on the Daintree. He had zero Aboriginal heritage but he'd lived with the locals, they'd given him a tribal name, initiated him into the mob and considered him Aboriginal so why shouldn't he identify as such?

Obama and Meghan Markle both identify as "Mixed Race" as they have both Black and European ancestry, many other African Americans also have European DNA but identify (or are identified as) Black.

My DNA is around 40% English, 30% Irish, Scottish and Welsh, 20% north and west european (Germany, France) and 6% Scandinavian.

I identify as Australian but if push came to shove I'd claim Irish and Scandinavian ancestry, not English
