Pies4shaw wrote:^ Everyone needs their preliminary final team to contain that 2 kick (one out of bounds on the full) line-breaking gut-runner who never seems to be able to run at the same speed as the opposition ruckman when the ball is in an opponent's hands. It makes for good team balance - you can't win a premiership without a spud or two in your midfield.

I've never previously been much of a fan but he had a solid run when back in the side
24yrs old, former 1st round pick, good size, and out of contract, I think he spent the year on the rookie list
I'll concede, I don't watch a lot of games in which the pies aren't playing, so I may be a bit too influenced by his good game when the Blues beat us this year
Haven’t seen much of him recently but appears to fit the bill.
Is he available?

- Cameron is a ruckman resting forward
- Elliot stands at 178cm, is injury prone and holds down our goal square
- Henry is a first year forward flanker shouldering the expectations of a 7 pre-season 25 year old
- Magic Johnson is a lightly framed wildcard with a couple of seasons of senior footy under his belt
- Begg is a kid who has played the majority of his junior footy as a Ruckman
- McMahon is a teenager who weighs 85kgs dripping wet
Anyone see a hole in our list that needs to be filled?
Great - name a player who we could get that would fill that role. This year.
Forward - The Weid, Finlayson or worst case scenario Jenkins
Mids - Lipinski on a wing and one of Dunstan, Constable, Will Brodie, and as suggested bu other Nicksters - Wallis (probably too expensive but fits the requirements) or Dumont (admittedly more of a wingman but could play hard in the centre).
They all appear to be available and going cheap.
Any of the above present a far better option than your expectation of letting our new generation of talented kids stand alone in a professional full contact sport.
Weed or Finlayson ain’t no 1 forwards.
Lipinski is a mid who I rate.
The other blokes are old and not cheap and all together hold up spots for nit our kids but current 2nd and 3rd year players.
Wallis I’d grab if cheap but just 2yr contract.
Either way. It’s a difference of opinion and I’d be stunned if Wright brought in more than 2 players not currently in their own teams 22.

He's out of contract and was on the Blues rookie list this year.
I doubt it would take much to pry him out
I think it was Pies2016 who said we should be looking for players who have shown they can play at this level, and Kennedy seems to have stepped it up this year.
He's a big bodied inside mid, a 2-3 year contract on a moderate wage should at least buy inside support while the younger players develop

Great - Name an available KPF that is available and whom we can afford to buffer Henry, Begg and McMahon from getting hammered over the next 3 seasons…

My point exactly.
The only one getable is King and we don’t have the currency.
The answer isn’t then bring in more talls unproven. Especially tried and unproven. And even if you get them they AINT spearheads.

King is not available.
This is not the NRL.
You can’t just pluck a 120kg west Samoan from relative obscurity and expect him to play every game and spearhead your attack.
Ask yourself this question - What if our leading goal kicker, ever reliable, ultra durable, criminally underrated and undersized KPF suffers a serious injury next year … Who fills the void?

Kids.
You’re sending lambs to the slaughter.
King is getable. I know he is getable. He won’t be in the Suns this trade period or next.
You think b grade players will fill that hole if we have the injury?
And that’s the last time I engage with someone who thinks geography dictates your understanding of sport. Apart from the arrogance it’s just friggen dumb.

Take a breath, forget about geography, concentrate on the game and be open to the only solutions we have at hand.
Lynch from Adelaide would seem to fill the KPF role albeit it in the short term.
He has experience, size and is a delisted free agent.
I would seriously consider someone like him as a short term option until the salary cap frees up to allow us to pursue a longer term option.

Lynch on $250,000 a year combining both on field and coaching duties would be a bargain. Reckon he has 30-40 games in him and could be a bridge whilst Henry, Johnson, McCreery and Ginnivan emerge physically.

Smart, capable and accomplished.
Put him on the wish list!
Just to play devils advocate… what about Walker?!!
You seem more than willing to dismiss everyone’s suggestions regarding fringe players and mature age forwards, but unable to answer a simple question.
Who plays KPF if Checkers goes down?
It’s a fair question but conversely, what is it that makes anyone believe Weed, Finlayson, Riccardi or any third round trade swap who isnt getting a game at their current club, would be the solution as a K P F ?
F W I W, when it comes to K P Fs, I would take quality over quantity any day and the last four flags suggest exactly that. You might win an extra game or two with these guys but you won’t win a flag with any of them as a main target.
