Who will never forget who had hold of the ball as the final siren blew in the 1990 GF.....and to think he played the last 5 weeks of that season with a broken wrist/hand....

The tag "champion" is oft given to many players....but "champion" is tag thats sits very well on Darren.

RIP Pants...your efforts in 1990 will long be remembered by all Collingwoods fans.

i have a thought on this i would like to share...

after hearing this story today, i could just imagine the great collingwood players who have passed on, and their spirits alive at vic park. Millane, the Roses, the Coventrys etc all running the boundary line at Vic Park, training the house down, their chests puffed out like parrots, bursting with pride and love of Collingwood, running the boundary for eternity.

I think this is a great way of remembering them.

Despite having a hand so sore he couldn't pull his own shorts up when getting changed Pants didn't shirk anything in the 1990 GF. Like his mates around him he punched the ball when it needed punching, marked and did everything he could, totally ignoring the pain.

I still cringe when I watch the replay of the GF. The pain he must have gone through would have been incredible. It would do some of our younger players a lot of good to watch that game and to understand what he went though to win that game.

Without a doubt, that day in 1991 is still the WORST day of my life.
I too remember getting up for work that morning and hearing the news. My first thought was that Dennis Banks must have also been in the car.
I said at the time that losing Darren would set the club's chances 5-10 years. And i stand by that. The 1992 premiership went begging in his absence. Losing Barwick and Kelly with knee injuries didn't help either. Tony Shaw and the class of 1990 know that too.

I have Darren's signature from a function post-1990 GF saying "1990-1991 back-to-back". Not quite accurate in hindsight, but still treasured. The other signature on that same paper is from a little known sports journalist at the time, one E.McGuire.

And yes, watching the 1990 GF should be a prerequisite for this mob too.
They just might have a better understanding of pain, sacrafice and what is required to go the distance. Until then, the 1990 cup sits on display, watching, waiting.....

I heard that on the radio too- the woman who told it, said that everyone sitting around heard the kid yelling about it too- would be interesting if we could find anyone who was sitting near them and heard it...

Can 3 year olds count to 42 nowadays?

My kids didn't even start Kinder' until they were 4 and I don't think they taught them to count that far.

Of course nowadays kids are much more advanced than they were back then but it doesn't sound like something a 3YO would say.

I'm with you stik 35. I loved Pants and it's always nice to reminisce but that story sounds like a crock of sh#t. No 3 yr old can count to 42.

Not a Collingwood one anyway!

The woman who told it didn't necesarily say the girl was 3, I don't think. I only remembered her saying it was a young kid- I was under the impression they were a bit older.

But I could be wrong- maybe she did say about 3 and I missed it...
