Pick 10: Aish
Do you think Aish will still be available at 10? He could be the Grundy of this draft and slide out. Apparently there might be ? Over his shoulder. I reckon we'll swoop on him at 6.
I think clubs will be reluctant to pick kids outside their home state, so that rules out both SA clubs who don't have picks til 20's.
I think we need a genuine wingman and Aish fits the bill.
I reckon he could be.
I have the top 5 as Boyd, Kelly, Billings, Scharenberg, Kolodjashnij.
Bontempelli reads like a Hine special; he loves his basketballers, does Dekka. I reckon he goes to us at 6.
The real question is, what do Brisbane do? There's strong mail that Brisbane will take Bontempelli if available at 7. If we pounce on Bontempelli at 6, then who do they fall back on? Let's say they go for maybe Lennon or even Dom Sheed.
North at pick 8 have McDonald locked in, so they're not a factor.
That leaves Melbourne at pick 9 who (rumour has it) have committed to Freeman. That's not to say they won't reconsider if Aish slides, but Roos apparently rates Freeman very highly. Let's say they do go Freeman.
Bingo, Aish is available at 10!
Eh, it could happen.

To be honest I'll be bitterly disappointed if Lennon's available at one of our picks and we don't take him.
In Hine I trust I guess.

No idea.
So, who here has actually seen these kids play enough to form an opinion rather than just reading online profiles and 'expert' opinions?

If we take Lennon, most likely Kolodjashnij, Freeman and Taylor will all be gone by 10. Bontempelli could be interesting but he'll also most likely be gone too by then. I think we'll be left with a choice out of Crouch or Acres, although one of either Bontempelli or McCarthy should still be available.
Does your math holdup given North take McDonald at 8?
Only 2 live picks between our picks 6 and 10 - 7 & 9
Assuming Boyd, Aish, Scharenberg, Billings, Kelly are your top 5
Lennon in your example at 6
7 say KK
8 McDonald
9 say Freeman
10 Taylor and Bontempelli et alia must still be available
If they believe they can mould Karnezis at ~190 into a mid and Hine is picking best available then I imagine our selections will be 2 x utility/mids, maybe one around 188-191 (Bontempelli, Lennon, Scharenberg, KK) and one shorter type (Aish, Taylor, Freeman).
McCarthy is not a top 10 player, just the best available key forward after Boyd. Pick up Moore next season and better key position options in next year's draft from what I have read.
Yes all fair enough and I agree - we should take whoever is best available, with the picks we have in a perfect world we'd pick up Freeman at 10 but I think just about any of Freeman, Salem, Bontempelli or Taylor could go at 9 so you never know we could get lucky... still any of those 4 should be a plus for our future, still there is something I like about Acres, a few others have mentioned it too. Pity we don't have a late 1st round pick as well

That's his range, perhaps, but maybe the pies see his 'type' being more important to our mix.

I also think Bontempelli will be taken by us at pick 6 if available.
For what it's worth (not much) this is how I see the first dozen or so picks unfolding.
1-Boyd (giants)
2-Scharenberg (giants)
3-Billings (saints)
4-Kelly (dogs)
5-Kolodjashnij (suns)
6-Bontempelli (pies)
7-Aish (lions)
8-McDonald (roos)
9-Freeman (demons)
10-Lennon (pies)
11-Sheed (eagles)
12-Salem (tigers)
13-McCarthy (scum)

Not sure I'd be happy with Bontempelli. At 194cm I doubt he's going to make it as a mid. More likely that he'll end up being a CHB or CHF. Yet, it doesn't look as if he's played much if any key position to this point. That's a bit of a risk at 6, and I think we'd be much better going with a specialist mid who's almost certain to make it in Aish.
I'd be happier with Bontempelli at 10, but at 6 I think it's too big a risk. I'd want a sure fire hit.

Pendlebury and Fyfe aren't much shorter.
It took years but Kouta when he reached his peak was almost unstoppable playing through the middle.
Pavlich is another you would say played as a tall midfielder in periods of his career.
Tall athletic midfielders/utilities will be more common staples within teams into the future IMO.
Anyway no point worrying to much just trust Hine knows what he's doing.
If we took Aish and Bontempelli is gone by 10 then I'll be happy with Lennon or someone like Acres who is a Bontempelli type looking at reports.

I like Nathan Freeman for pick 6
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-10-20/nathan-freeman
He could become the ''next Dane Swan'', dont forget Swan is 30..
He's a ball magnet and he has got pace (in my opinion)

Freeman is tipped to go top 10.
They all sound bloody good.
Gimme, gimme, gimme.
At the end of the day as long as we don't take any midgets I'll be happy with whoever Hine believes worthy of pick 6 and 10.

I dare say Hine will probably feel the same and take Aish at pick 6 if still available.
It would be considered by many as a complete steal as he was touted as the obvious No.2 selection for quite sometime until recently.
He's a South Australian and dual AA as well something that both Grundy and Kennedy were last year.
The more I hear of Freeman the more I like him as well.
Would compliment Adams well if Aish is unavailable.

Love Freeman. Sounds Simmlar to Dangerfield who is a Gun
