Missed the first half, but wasn't surprised to see it tight at half time.
Why are we either every team's grand final or the game when our opponent is under the pump from the entire football world?
We missed Goldy's pressure massively, though it shouldn't have mattered against a bottom 4 side.
White MUST play 2nd ruck or not at all, so back to the seconds for Witts or Grundy. The three together don't work.
I don't want to hammer Adams like every one else as he does get in and have a go. But.......from day one I never liked the Heater trade. He looks an honest trier, whereas Heater was one of the best backman in the game. Never an even trade.

Back to the old Collingwood who turned to shit every time they visit Etihad against one of the Etihad specialists.
Shit ground that no one likes, even the fans didn't care about tonight given the shit crowd or maybe they all realised the players didn't give a shit this week
One of the worst performances we have seen in a very long time against some absolutely woeful opposition
But it was the midfield that was absolutely smashed, only missing Beams who was obviously rested and they got smashed, forward line did well with limited opportunities and Clokey was killing it, even if some still will criticise, hell he kicked straight, the opposition doesn't control who straight you kick...

Is laziness the aim as well?Pies 08 wrote:Only positive to come out of today is that we can stop torturing ourselves with delusions of grandeur. Because thats what today was about....and if it happens in 2015/16/17 you will see the same result.
Not acceptable....not even close to acceptable.

Beaten by a side who played like their lives were on the line. The dogs were hungry and we were not up for the hard contest. When a side is able to grind us down with tackling pressure this team never seems to be able to cope with it. Are we flat track bullies? Do we rely on teams dropping away before we can secure our victories? I suspect it is possible.
Our defense is basically full of kids and unreliable defending types right now which amplifies our weaknesses. Our midfield line up today was pedestrian, so many plodders. How we can go in with Ball, Blair, Thomas, Adams and Caff all whom are slower than snails on valium is beyond me. White is just completely ineffective as a tall forward option, not sure what he is there to do right now, whatever it is it isn't much.
Kudos to Cloke, played his best game for the year probably, but again, all his top performances are against undersized defenses. I don't know, we seem to put in a shocker every month, next week is looking grim.

Pros
Cloke getting into form
Elliot
Langdon and Keeffe had shockers but kept trying
Now everyone knows how valuable Goldsack and Maxwell are
Beams has rested/recovered from injury
Pendles pity a few others wont try as hard as him.
Cons
Blair passenger
White passenger
Thomas passenger
Swan passenger
Macaffer poor
Young poor
How much better will the side be if more than two forwards could kick goals or at least look threatening

Yes every team sees us as their grand final game and this was always going to be a danger. The Dogs were hammered in the media and were bound to lift, but there were some obvious problems today. Our backline looked totally lost especially in the last. Pressure, a big plus in most games this year, was missing in action.
Questions would be asked of the Doggies too. How can they play so well today and present with shit effort in the previous 12 games? That indicates a lack of courage for mine.
I'm bitterly disappointed in losing, especially as it would have put us comfortably in the top 4, but young players have their down days and today was the day.
Let's hope we get a wake up call and come out snarling for the Hawks.
After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!

Very disappointing to have lost today. Really unimpressed with the performance. Was very sub-standard and a lot of our players looked flat, disinterested or tired. Think we also fell short at the selection table too. Played too many talls today, and if beams was fit, then he should have played. We were at least one or two runners short.
Monster effort from Cloke today. Took some great contested grabs, presented well and second efforts were also very good, and to kick 6 goals after a shocker of a year in front of goal was fantastic. Also thought Elliot tried hard all day too running forward, back and bobbing up for 4 goals too.
Our defense was overwhelmed though. We got smashed at the clearances which meant the ball was coming down more often than not, meaning our defenders had to work twice as hard. They tried but to no avail.
Our midfield were almost terrible bar one or two. We butcher the ball way too much. We got caught holding the ball too many times also and once again our decision making and ball skills leave a lot to be desired. This is an on going issue that needs to be addressed.
Blair was absolutely awful today and only ended up with 7 or so possessions for the game. I don't care he many tackles he lays, he is not delivering as a small midfielder/forward and needs a rest to make him realise that he has to work harder.
Adams is another one who didn't perform well when required. Made a few crucial errors and bad decisions when the game was in the balance in the final moments of the last quarter. His ball skills are terrible too, but he's young and will hopefully learn and improve.
White is another who disappointed too. He's someone who should've stood up when the game was in the balance a la Cloke. I think he's capable.
Next week will be tough and could go either way. The hawks are missing a lot of players but still find a way of winning. We must be up for the challenge and bounce back. We've got a tough road now heading into the second half of the season and unfortunately, it's all uphill from here. Top 4 is probably out of the question now and I think 5-8 is more realistic of where we're really at. We're good enough to be there but lack that bit of extra pace. Decision making and skills going forward continue to destroy us and we got caught with the ball one too many times or fumbled at crucial moments due to being under immense pressure. Loved Broomhead's little cameo to set up Elliot. Hopefully he gets another crack at it. It pains me to say this but the dogs wanted it more than we did and I wonder if we just showed up expecting to win.

Adams is useless. Worst footballer in our team. Should never play another senior game.
Jarryd Blair is worse.
The rationale behind selecting him was sound. Good inside, stoppage player against a good inside, stoppage team. You were the one who thought we'd be sweet with just Thomas and Ball in close (both of whom Adams was better than today). Sadly we still got phucked in the clearances largely.
I wasn't spruiking him getting a gig unlike you with Broomhead though. Tell me how you rated his game once he got on?

Well Blair as forward is a joke
kicked 7 or 8 goals in 12 matches - wonderful result!
He is slow, does not run or carry and his one great attribute
is that he is a good tackler! big deal!
If Martin could play any worse - i would eat my hat!
Ball, swan and Toovey are on their way out.
White is the colour of his heart!
Taylor is a great collingwood kick.
Play this kids please!

12 players in that team with under 50 games experience. Was always going to be an issue having such a young squad but not having Reid, Brown, Beams, Sidebottom, Goldsack, Maxwell and Sinclair available exacerbates that.swoop42 wrote:We have been playing poor football for a month or more now.
Lose to Adelaide, lucky to beat West Coast, a training run against the saints, struggle to beat the demons and now lose to the dogs.
Hopefully is the wake up call some needed at the club and this board to realise we aren't top 4 material right now despite what the ladder suggested.
Once again today we struggled to get it inside 50 and despite Cloke kicking 6 and Elliott 4 still couldn't beat a bottom 6 side.
It's pretty clear to me that we lack genuine structure and fluency when we bring the ball forward and seem to rely to much on an individuals talents to make the right decision at the time rather than play to a strict playbook.
It might work out in the medium term but right now it's leading to haphazard passages of play and inconsistent performances.
Next week will make or break our year.

Disappointing result but at the end of the day I do not and have not believed we are a true contender this year.
Good opportunity for the half full brigade to crawl out from under their respective rocks and denigrate the team, its players and coaching staff.
