Mayne is a very good pick up.

We've tried Goldsack and Blair as that defensive forward over the past few years and the opposition (good teams) have just laughed at us and run the ball out so easily.

Mayne is a very good defensive forward who kicked 76 goals in 2 seasons when the Dockers were good.

And he's free, which is always the best price.

Sorry, don't want Wells. I seriously question his work ethic and durability.

We lose nothing (except cash which clearly we have a lot of for next year and beyond) meaning anything is a bonus. If they flop, so be it. If they perform, what a great outcome.

Haven't seen much of Mayne but he was a very good player when Freo were almost the best. Wells is an interesting one, clearly his body is not what it was (and probably never will be again) but he has class and poise. We're hardly stocked up with his type...

Except they take a spot on our list which would otherwise be taken by a young developing player. Also, there tends to be a bias towards playing them because of their "experience", rather than their form. Unless we recruit a specialist player, like we did in Jolly, to fill a role no-one else could fill, then I think it's a retrograde step. Didn't we learn from Russell, Young and Lynch.

Oh please!!! 'Developing' b and c grade talent with a 10% chance of becoming elite. What don't people understand? We have our core. What are we going to be, a perpetual U/23 squad always developing?

Quite correct Raw. You NEED experience in the team and the youngsters just blend in slowly rather than thrown in the deep end when the cupboard is bare and expected to perform to the hype they spin on what are nothing more than adolescents.

It's difficult to properly develop young players without the right mix of experience around them. With the departures of Swan, Macaffer, Toovey, Cloke, potentially others, I think our experience levels are again falling dangerously low.

Playing kids and only kids will never get you to the finals. Particularly now that the competition is so strong. You need quality experience, but even middling experience of the right type can be important.

Buckley has stated we have to make finals in 2017. I don't think there's much chance of that without adding some experience. The young players will be inconsistent on and off the field, they will suffer more injuries and they need strong leaders around them to reach their potential, something our squad lacks.

We've messed up the transition between squad builds and left the top end of our age range essentially bare by booting out any player who causes any friction. We're starting to build a stronger sense of team, but it's been made more difficult by this mistake or mismanagement. Bringing in experience from other clubs isn't ideal, but it's what we're left with
Well done boys!

I'd prefer Cameron Shenton from the Saints, he's been killing it at Sandy his year.

We saw how well Melb 'developed' when they discarded all their 'old' players. A bunch of top ten picks and first round draft picks making the same mistakes week in week out. Roos comes in, surrounds them with some wise heads...cusp of finals. Why would we want to replace Sean, Caff, Toovey, Cloke, etc. with kids? We have 20 capable kids already, with Schaz and Elliott and Ramsay and Keeffe and Thomas to come back in. There's your 'kids' for 2017.

I'm all in favour bringing in some experience. In fact I think we need a ready made experienced KPP from somewhere. However, what I don't want are hacks or has beens, who do not represent significant upgrades on what we already have. So far, the players mentioned as possible trades, with the exception of Hoskin-Elliott, do not interest me at all. At the end of the day, it's all about quality imo not average age. Remember, we already have a lot of experienced players on our list in Pendles, Goldy, Brown, Sidey, Reid, Blair and Varcoe as well as young guns with a few years already under their belts in Treloar, Adams, Crisp and Grundy.

We should just stop this rubbish, now and do whatever it takes to get Jeremy Cameron. They can even have Langdon and Sidey, if that's what it takes.
