The Father and Son rules these days are just stupid and an hinderance. The player should nominate if he wants to join his Fathers club. If he doesn't then he goes into the draft or no father and son rules and the player goes into the draft.

I watched Callum Brown last night and a bit over the last year and I am scratching my head.
He seems really slow. Is this me or am I dreaming? He seems to have some reasonable skills but he is a bloody midget.
To me if a midget is slow then he has to make up with an impressive skill array.
Sam Mitchell was a midget with incredible talent.
But I am beginning to think Callum won't make it.
Now I could be completely wrong but could someone point out to me why he could become a good AFL player.

To answer your question -

Because he is still only nineteen.

Every team needs an extractor and a distributor. The trick is not to have too many of them in the same side.

Personally I thought he was alright against the Giants.
The kids only nineteen and he was working hard against the odds all night.
At times, he was up against units like Ward, Coniglio and Shiel last night and still found it. As he develops, the polish will come.

He is 20 in April.
Not so very young. So you think he will be very good as an in and under player???

Handballs way too much usually out of panic rather than creating opportunities (like Diesel Williamsfor example)

and Daicos has absolutely no penetration his kicking. He kicks balloon up and land about 40 metres away.

I agree, it's absolutely worth keeping a positive outlook for Brown because he's so young. I'm not too worried about his size - dogs 2016 showed that's not necessarily an issue - but I also agree that he's not convinced me yet.

However, when we look at the 'extractor' position, I do wonder whether Brown would ever win a clearance against, for example, Taylor Adams. Even a few years down the track, but obviously that remains to be seen. You also look at players like Adams (and I'm not looking to ignite a debate about his skill level here, please) and see that most 'extractors' these days are also either a) quite quick or b) tall and able to take contested marks.

There are a few freaks like Mitchell who are neither, and there probably always will be, but I'm not convinced their role will be all that significant as the game continues to evolve.
