We are accumulating some promising talent and young Begg is one

Next year with the likely departure of some senior players (of which we have few) the future is in the Beggs and Johnson’s etc etc

Sure we are having a

Is Begg a poor man's Jackson

The loss of Grundy is a bit hard to swallow but could Begg be a poor man's Jackson - very athletic??? Showed a little this year!

From the little I've seen of him, he has a real crack but he's not tall enough to play in the ruck at AFL level and he's not a good enough mark to be a KPP.
Hopefully he's still growing.

Yeah he needs to grow and build some muscle on the frame. Too small for crash and bash. Too light to be under the ball. Speculative pick for a talk that will take some time to develop. Let’s hope we don’t let him go like Ceglar and Witts and Max Lynch and he does things at the next club. Would like to see him develop around a third tall key forward or key back. If the rumours of another bench player come true he may be a versatile choice off the bench

I'd be thinking they should be molding him as a backup (or possible long term replacement) for Darcy in defense.

He needs a couple of more years in the ressies I reckon. Then we'll have a better idea of whether he can make it as a senior player.

There's definitely something there to work with.

He's athletic, good below his knees, disposal is good and he has a crack.

He needs to put on 10kg of muscle over summer as a priority, he's not going to make a 1st ruck but could be a decent hybrid option like a Blicavs.

Yes, the bones are there. If aerobically he could carry 100kg over a game, from what I've seen from his VFL appearances, he'd soon be knocking down the senior selection door.
That's where Grundy did well, he carried that frame and could run out matches with +80% game time. I thought Grundy's aerobic ability was always underated.

Begg is a young prospect.

We must not make unfair comparisons!

Begg was always a Forward who can ruck. He's 5 yrs younger than Curno and Makay as an example. He showed he can find the footy as a 2nd ruck. Just needs to work on his forward craft and body size. Hes the typw of player we have protected in development by bringing in Mcstay.

^^ How does he make it as a key forward (or key back for that matter) when he's not a good mark? He averaged less than one mark a game in the VFL this year.

Love to see him work on aerobic base and become a tall winger and just roam up and down and run, run, run
