Varcoe was effectively useless after 2018GF.MatthewBoydFanClub wrote:Varcoe was a waste in the last couple years. If we want to climb back up the ladder we need to dispense with players who are only going to give us a couple of year’s service. We should have learned that lesson with Daniel Wells.
Some argue he should have been recalled for 2019PF vs. GWS; who knows.
Daniel Wells? The same Daniel Wells who in his return game in 2019, kicked three 1st half goals against Swans at SCG, before a hospital handball from numpty Beams busted his knee and ended his career?
If Wells goes through the rest of that season uninjured with that form, we would have played off in 2019GF, that's for sure.
We can afford the luxury of a couple of mature age recruits, providing they come cheap from whoever offloads them, and without big salary demands.
That is where we encountered cap problems, bringing aboard Wells, Varcoe, Mayne, Greenwood etc, in that F.A. shopping spree, once Beams left in 2014.

Given that he averaged 9 games a season in the preceding 5 years, the odds of him getting through 2019 uninjured are not good, with or without poor handballspiedys wrote:If Wells goes through the rest of that season uninjured with that form, we would have played off in 2019GF, that's for sure
The other problem is that we paid him way too much and without appropriate performance incentives

Cox can leave basically. If he’s a decent bloke, he’ll repay the club by offering to be traded so we get something in return. The club’s been good to him. But why would another club trade when they can get him for free.

So which club in your fantasy land for trade for an uncontracted player?Mr Miyagi wrote:Cox can leave basically. It happens. Best case we get some points for Daicos.What'sinaname wrote:So which club in your fantasy land for trade for an uncontracted player?Mr Miyagi wrote:Cox can leave basically. The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after.

They can only get him for free if he is a delisted free agent. That comes from two reasons:Mr Miyagi wrote:Cox can leave basically. 1. Club immediately delist said player if they don't believe he is unlikely to conjure up "trade currency". For example Ben Crocker
2. A player post trade week fails to get traded and the club delists them creating a vacant list spot.
Hopefully Cox arouses enough interest from clubs such as:
* Bulldogs
* Gold Coast
* Blues
* Brisbane
* Swans
* Hawks
who are all thin in the ruck stakes.
I love the Pies, hate Carlscum

performance incentives or actually staying injury free enough to take the field?Rd10.1998_11.1#36 wrote:Given that he averaged 9 games a season in the preceding 5 years, the odds of him getting through 2019 uninjured are not good, with or without poor handballspiedys wrote:If Wells goes through the rest of that season uninjured with that form, we would have played off in 2019GF, that's for sure

regardless, didn't he wear a big pay-cut after 2018 season, in an attempt to repay the faith, for that 2019 season?
