A win for the ages.
Seems we have found 2 good players in Harrison and Sullivan.
The Pies are back!

That is the amazing thing. Carlton did not actually dominate the clearances. Cripps and Walsh negated. How did that happen???
No idea. I am going to have to watch this game several times to uncover the mystery.
But HH and Sully were wonderful.
Some pertinent stats on that:

Crisp 10 clearances (moved into the midfield after playing recent games from halfback), 17 contested possessiions
Nick Daioos 7 clearances, 15 contested possessiions
Grandpa Scott 5 clearnces, 9 contested possessiions
Sullivan 4 clearancesv, 6 contested possessiions
Lipinski 4 clearances, 11 contested possessiions
Harrison 4 clearances, 7 contested possessiions

I've bolded the ones who particularly stepped up to support the two Rolls Royces at the coalface. The Carlton midfield is a bit good for Pendelbury and Daicos to beat on their own - but the depth of contribution from players we might not have expected big output from was enough to get us over the line.

In addition to his brilliant positive work, the defensive job Pendlebury did on Cripps was remarkable - when Cripps gets fewer contested possessions than Lipinski, they're in trouble.

Also, as I mentioned in the pre-game thread, Pittonet dominated last week because Geelong don't really play a ruckman. In last night's game, he was probably still the most influential in the ruck but it wasn't one-way traffic for them. He had 33 hitouts (11 to advantage) but Cameron and Cox, between, them just about broke even with Carlton's ruck output at stoppages (43 hitouts to 42, 9 hitouts to advantage to 12).

Finally (or, perhaps, first), the coaching group's preparation and stategy to even-up that part of the game was really splendid. It is telling that with so much less of the ball Collingwood had so many more inside 50s. The gameplan was very efficient (as it was in last week's draw, when we were smashed in almost every stat).

Solid post P4S, captured the significance of those contributions.

A new home and away record crowd for Carlton v Collingwood was achieved with 88,362.
The great thing about that is so many more Carlton supporters were there to see King Pendlebury and Prince Nick put the pretenders to the sword.

Every now and then, the true faithful have their believe renewed by miraculous events.
Some may argue, but its wins like that that make it all worthwhile, better than a flag for mine.
If your eye didn't moisten slightly at the sight of Daics senior in the box after Yung Wan kicked the sealer, I don't know if you are even alive

My tradition of a cooked bkfst after a win was one of the best this morning.
Match replay, cooked breakfast, texting my Carlton mates.
If I leave this mortal coil now, tell 'em I was happy.

love the Saturday after match glow watching Daicos goal again and again.

Fly's presser was different last night. he spoke positively about what they did differently and where they are going for the first time. A lot of praise to Hadyn Skipworth's plan an preparation! Talked about pressure of course but deflected that to focus on tackles and pressure from tackles. Talked up Sullivan and Harrison.

Somebody said we had no depth, we've all been wondering whilst we were down. You never know unless you have to rely on them and its great to see a few step up given the opportunity.

watching Bobby's goal on the replay again. Elliot was out of position but found a way to lean into the marking contest and tap to advantage and Bobby did the rest. So good!

Haha- was thinking the same this morning.

Did not watch the game- 'Mental-Health' choice. Found out the score at 12-30am- delighted.

It is amazing what fresh legs and minds can bring to a team.

Not suggesting we throw the baby out with the bathwater but Harrison (quick, aggressive and does not fumble) and Sullivan (tough and game smarts) added value to this team.

The return to form of Crisp and the incredible and timeless Pendlebury were supplemented by a host of others. I love that our team's result was as a result of a team-effort...For older Nicksters, this was almost a carbon copy of Tom Hafey Magpie era games...

My early nomination for worst commentary of 2024 goes to lifelong Collingwood hater, Luke Hodge. With a minute to go, Pendles kicked long inside 50 toward Mihocek who was leading in the vicinity... As the ball dribbled over the line, Hodge proclaimed, " That has to be a free to Carlton- you cannot kick toward the boundary, you have to go for the goals...." Goose...

Please lock this in- Darcy Cameron has improved his tank this year and will finish Top 5 in the Copeland Trophy.

Now we are 4 wins, 3 losses and a draw we are somewhat back into the season...

Floreat Pica folks..
Firm in the belief that number 17 flag is only months away...

Haha, too right WB Lad, the spite is strong in that one.

Just like when he had a tanty at the advantage paid to the Lions in the GF, he went feral, showed his true colours, must hate the pies something fierce
