Poaching at its record high
According to the WWF, poaching has increased to a record high in Africa's national parks. In 2012 alone, 30,000 elephants were killed. Illegal ivory trade has once again become a thriving business.
"It is outrageous. Ivory is now used as an investment in parts of Asia. The price per kilo has risen again and now stands at several hundred euros," says Homes. China's growing middle class is renowned for its love of expensive art objects and jewelry made of ivory. Powdered ivory is also said to have an aphrodisiac effect in Asia. This means that high demand and international restrictions on the ivory trade have created a lucrative black market.

How do they determine "who the act is specifiically directed to". It could be an interesting court case to observe.stui magpie wrote:And in breaking news that will have 5150 booking a flight to Sweden.....

That's very true
Don't like to sound racist, but seriously what's with the Asians? They are finally coming around that there is alternatives to bear bile, but there are still bears farmed for it. Thankfully the sanctuaries are still going strong (I donate occasionally) but the whales and the dolphins, don't get me started on their treatment of dogs. What they did during the war, do they not place the same value on human life? Is it a cultural thing?
I guess I can understand poor villages in Africa needing the money, and the depth of tyranny over there makes life hard, that's why it's so important to teach them to be self sufficient, but until the mighty dollar stops being the be all end all, it's doomed.
I can't watch the documentrys anymore, they break my heart. I'll watch the ones where they are trying to fix things. But the others, I just can't....
