True dat.
I hope the club does! and I certainly hope Thor knows lol
As I say, that's where the trust comes into play, and the club has genuinely earned that trust given the enlightened decision to bring McRae in, the team's subsequent performance, and our improved recruitment and development.

People, circumstances and psychology change, but we also know that Grundy has excelled and tirelessly carried an underperforming team. So, he too has earned trust and a chance to recover from injury and any malaise that might (or might not) exist.

I would be disappointed to see any of the parties overreact and not stay on track, again all unknowns aside by definition. Similarly, given the role of the media and social media histrionics in placing pressure on the club, it's annoying to see the lack of discipline shown by some fans. The only thing they can do by running their mouths is pressure people into dumb decisions and incite still further media pressure.

And yes, we all make a difference these days. The saying 'be careful what you wish for' comes to mind as people now have influence through social media, albeit it tiny until aggregated, yet lack even the slightest sense of responsibility for their contribution.

Wonderful post, Pietillidie. So many of our supporters seem to forget, just as you said, that Brodie carried on his shoulders our underperforming team for so long. And he was amazingly resistant to injuries in so doing. He was a Leviathon. Yes, he has more than earned the right to recover from injury without any loss of estimation for his value.
The loose cannon, impatient, irresponsible posts from fans who lack any sense of appreciation is a real concern, and as you say, under the cloak of anonymity and totally subservient to their instantaneous impulses, the only impact of their social media comments is to potentially pressurise the club into irrational decisions.
However, I trust the coaching group:Fly, Leppa, Bolton and Wright. I trust that they will navigate the storm with the clarity and the calmness that they have displayed all year.

I'd rather keep Grundy.

But if trading BG lands us one of Sam Draper, Tim Taranto*, or Pick 1, then you'd at least have to think about it. *plus upgrading picks or Hill/Hopper involved.

I'd also like to think we would not be paying the $300k that's been reported.

Question is, can we still get Taranto without trading Grundy? Because if we can get TT and hold onto Grundy, that would be a huge win. But if we somehow landed Draper, I think many people would be ok with letting Grundy go. It surely softens the blow.

If you believe Grundy remains our best ruck option I keep finding myself coming back to the question of how our Premiership chances are enhanced if he ends up at a Melbourne or Geelong next season?

Melbourne for one surely couldn't believe their luck if we gift wrap them a dual AA ruck when they're about to lose Jackson and seemingly are happy to explore using Gawn up forward more.

Geelong haven't wanted for much over the last 5 years outside a clear cut No.1 ruck option. Once again we'd offer up an ideal solution.

Handing them Grundy on a platter doesn't sit well with me and now imagine paying for that privilege by continuing to pay a portion of his salary.

That's insane.

Now perhaps if a big fish could be obtained (that's a H.McKay not McStay or Taranto) I would be sold on the move but that appears very unlikely.

And what of Taranto?

While he'd be a handy addition with young midfield options like McInnes, Carmichael, Macrae, Harrison and Draper continuing to develop then come 2023 perhaps he isn't so needed (assuming we retain De Goey) we need to part with Grundy to make it happen.

Personally I believe the acquisition of McStay has already been budgeted for and doesn't require either Grundy or De Goey to move clubs.

While this season has been a wonderful ride, it's a 1 in 100 years stuff of dreams and you can almost guarantee that in any other season on record these 10 or so wins by a goal would have resulted in 5 losses and see us outside the top 8 today.

The worst possible thing we could do now is get ahead of ourselves as a club and start believing that a player in Grundy is so superfluous to our needs we are prepared to pay him to play against us next year and/or trade him in for a pick 18.

While winning again yesterday was fantastic it surely can't be sustainable if we keep getting smashed in clearances and contested ball week after week.

While Grundy alone wont solve this problem obviously I wonder if his importance around the stoppages isn't just about his own clearance numbers but the number of clean clearances he can help stop the opposition obtaining. Something to ponder.

The simple reality is Grundy is yet to even get a real crack playing in the McRae system of football, his current worth to the side is largely unknown because of it and at 28 (29 in April) still remains in his prime as a ruck option and has the time to get back to something resembling his best.

Massive decision this one and the club would want to be bloody sure before they push him out the door.

we need him OR a Ruck like him.
We will be weakened if he goes, strengthened if he was in the team.

If he goes to a competitor, it will bite us hard

Someone just get down to the hanger and convince Wright and Draper that they should be in black and white.

There is no question that elite midfielders are more important than ruckmen for clearances, as was made bleeding obvious by the game last week against Melbourne, in which we won the hit outs 43-38, but were smashed in the clearances, losing stoppage clearances 24-32 and centre clearances an astonishing 7-21, and this is why Graham Wright wants to trade out Grundy and trade in an inside mid.
Exactly, Grundy used to win 60-70 hit outs in games we'd lose, what was the point? Brisbane beat us with 2 ruckmen who'd played 5 games between them last year...Grundy got 70 hitouts against GWS in the final we lost at the G.

It's very clear wasting so much cap space on a player who isn't influential is stupid. I doubt Melbourne is paying Petracca a million a year and he is twice the player Grundy is.
Once again, this time against Carlton, we won the hit outs easily (43-23) and lost the clearances just as easily (33-47), although centre clearances were quite even, but the biggest problem was that we were smashed in contested possessions (123-177), with Patrick Cripps alone having an astonishing 27, explaining why Graham Wright so desires not a ruckman but a high-quality inside mid.

Hawthorn interested in Grundy. Probably seen as a potential replacement for McEvoy.

For reasons unbeknown to us, it seems the club is pretty keen to get Grundy off their books. :?

Good fit for them, should be a good outcome for us considering with all that’s been said ad nausea. GW is certainly working on it.

Gawn confirmed at a presser today that he and Melbourne have met with Grundy. Or “casually bumped into him on the street” wink wink.

What are Melbourne going to give us in return?

What is the asking price for a player like Grundy?

Well Gawn said he wants to see Luke Jackson in Melbourne colours next year, but looked annoyed when saying it.

As others have said already, the more clubs that are interested the better the possible deals that Graham Wright has to play around with, so Hawthorn's interest is good news, and we might hope that other clubs with retiring ruckmen might join them, for example St. Kilda might transfer their fixation with De Goey to Grundy, now that Ryder has retired.
