P4S & MJ23, who is the last person in this thread who said his disposal is "hopeless"? You seem to be protesting too much. I started searching backwards, but gave up without seeing anything.
(Personally, I definitely don't think it's elite or a dangerous weapon, unfortunately, but not the worst either. Sadly, we don't have many players whose kicking is a weapon.)

Pies4shaw wrote:He flubbed a few kicks when they rushed him back, underdone in 2017, after his long injury layoff. After that, confirmation bias seems to have set in for quite a lot of people on here. Every time he misses a target, he is said to have "hopeless" disposal. Yet, somehow he finished 2018 with over 80% DE (and finished 2017 on 84%).
The DE stat is very misleading because I can train a seal to handball a ball 2 meters with his nose to someone
Have a close look at the stats more closely old mate
If you look at his disposal eff over 20m by foot it drops to just over 54%
That's the knock I have on his disposal
You can tell by his meters gained per disposal that he now understands his weakness there because he rarely goes for distance by foot coming out of our defensive 50
He more often than not goes by hand to another player for the clearing kick
He averaged 13.3m percent disposal in 2018 compared to Scharenberg who averaged 21.3m per disposal
Our back men as a group excluding Langdon averaged 19.1m per disposal basically 50% more
A player knowing his limitations is a good thing and the longer season 2018 went it appeared he learned his much better
I've never knocked the guys courage or work rate or his ability to spoil or smoother there his strengths in many ways
Just for the record here's our defenders disposal by foot over 20m for the season eff
Scharenberg 78.4
Dunn 74.8
Howe 69.9
Crisp 68.4
Mayanrd 68.1
Langdon 54.3
It's a mute point now really he signed for 3 more seasons and if his form in the GF becomes his weekly standard then we will be a better side for sure
Let's hope he and all our defenders can continue the improvement they showed during 2018

Langdon's disposal is competent. He is not a liability, nor is it a particular strength.
(But Qld will pretend it's twice as good as Leon's was and more damaging than Didak could ever be, while P4S will pretend that he makes the Barham lad look like a disposal god.)
(Or possibly the other way around, depending on whether they have got bored yet and swapped sides already.)
Competent. No more, no less.
But we haven't had a fair-dinkum quality small defender since BJ retired. It is a definite gap in our list. Maynard often gets the job and does OK, but I sometimes wonder if we shouldn't have a specialist for that role.

Sinclair was supposed to be that - but he broke.

Quaynor in time could be that.
Appleby shows promise also.

That's illegal disposal unless the seal is named Higgins.

I'm desperately concerned that people now aren't talking about the King of Kings in the thread bearing his name.
Perhaps we should all just get on back over to the McLarty thread and talk about Tommy there, like we were trying to do, before we were so rudely interrupted 21 pages back.

I agree. Langdons disposal is competant. Just like Scharenberg. The point is that the role they play is to set up the counter with a safe (let me stress - SAFE) exit out of defense and get the ball to the playmakers. competent disposal is a strength at his position not a weakness. Doesnt matter how good Howe is he will never be reliable by foot.

Howe is a better kick than either of the other two, but about once a match bites off way too much.

Scharenberg's disposal is not merely "competent". It is outstanding - significantly better than that of Langdon or Howe. Berg's disposal by foot is a joy to watch.
That's no knock on Langdon, who does better than OK, nor Howe, who makes unexpected shockers more often than we would like but mostly gets it right.
Saying "Langdon's disposal is competent. Just like Scharenberg." is like saying "Crisp's marking is pretty good. Just like Howe."
